The TR-3B — also written TR3-B, called Astra within the program according to Edgar Fouché, and popularly known by the composite name TR-3B Black Manta — is a large, silent, triangular aircraft which — if the identification of the triangular UFOs with large lights at each corner and in the middle reported by hundreds of civilian and military observers since the late 1980s holds — has been seen worldwide, capable of near-instantaneous acceleration from a slow hover to extreme speed; what observers report seeing are the triangles and their lights, and which of those craft are TR-3Bs of the kind Fouché describes is itself a per-sighting question. According to Fouché, an aerospace engineer and black-program contractor who provided the primary technical description of the craft in 1998, it is a classified United States antigravity aircraft — a triangular alien reproduction vehicle combining conventional and reverse-engineered non-human propulsion technology — developed under the AURORA program and first flown around 1994. Dan Burisch has separately stated that some of the publicly reported triangles are indeed reproduction vehicles, with further military triangles modeled off from them.

If the craft functions as Fouché describes, it would mean a fleet of operational human-built antigravity vehicles — flown on classified mass-reduction physics reverse-engineered in part from non-human technology — has been kept from public acknowledgment for decades, while producing one of the most sustained and widely witnessed unidentified-triangle sighting records in the world.

Fouché is the sole named source for the craft's specific technical design; the phrase "TR-3B Astra" and its link to the Aurora program gained wider currency afterward chiefly through podcasts and online forums — Tom DeLonge and Joe Rogan discussed the craft on-air alongside hundreds of black-triangle videos offered as supporting evidence — a popularization that largely recirculates what Fouché himself published rather than adding independent testimony. A retired Marine Corps flight-simulator engineer, Bill Uhouse, has instead described the black triangles as composite vehicles built around two or three smaller disc craft, a construction differing from the single integrated airframe Fouché describes; the two descriptions may name different generations or variants of triangular craft rather than contradict one another. None of the sources cited here argues that the craft is an outright fabrication; the live disagreement is over which description of its internal mechanism is correct, and whether the earliest large-scale sightings of similar craft describe the same program or a separate one.

Design and propulsion

Fouché, who worked as an aerospace engineer and contractor at several classified installations including Area 51 and the Tonopah Test Range, provided the primary technical description of the TR-3B in his 1998 book Alien Rapture and in subsequent conference presentations. He stated that the craft was designated "Astra" within the program and developed under a program codenamed AURORA — distinct from the SR-71-successor program of the same name — and described it as a large equilateral triangle approximately 600 feet per side, with three multimode thruster modules at each corner and a centrally mounted nuclear Magnetic Field Disruptor (MFD): a rotating mercury-plasma toroid operating at 50,000 rpm that generates a magnetic vortex field reducing the craft's mass-to-gravity interaction by up to 89%. According to Fouché, the primary propulsion is a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) system, while the secondary MFD ring — the source of the craft's exceptional performance — reduces both its gravitational and its inertial mass by approximately 89%; the three conventional thrusters, which can run on hydrogen, oxygen, or nuclear reactions, then provide the remaining propulsion at speeds of up to Mach 9 within the atmosphere, transitioning to plasma propulsion modes above that figure. Fouché placed the craft in the category of alien reproduction vehicles, combining already-suppressed human technology with reverse-engineered non-human propulsion concepts rather than purely conventional black-program aircraft.

Uhouse, a retired Marine Corps fighter pilot and mechanical engineer who spent over 30 years working on a disc flight simulator at S-4 and Los Alamos National Laboratory, described the black triangles observed by the public as composite vehicles rather than single airframes, with two or three 30-metre disc cores arranged inside a larger triangular exterior shell: "They've got like two or three 30 meter crafts in the center of it. All that other stuff on the outside is tag along." In Uhouse's description, the discs provide the propulsion while the surrounding triangular structure is essentially inert mass carried by the disc cores.

The claimed 89% reduction in the craft's effective mass, if accurate, would allow it to operate well outside conventional aerodynamic regimes: to change direction instantaneously without inducing g-forces on occupants, to hover silently with no aerodynamic lift or combustion, to accelerate to hypersonic speeds using conventional MHD propulsion applying force to only the remaining ~11% of apparent mass, and to operate without a sonic boom as its interaction with the air is attenuated by the mass-reduction field. This propulsion concept is consistent with the Biefeld–Brown effect and with Salvatore Pais's U.S. Navy patents describing inertial mass reduction through electromagnetic field manipulation — a resemblance suggesting the TR-3B may represent an operationalized version of classified electrogravitics research. Michael Salla describes the same system with slightly different figures, identifying the TR-3B as a specific classified Air Force triangle with a circular ring of highly pressurized red mercury plasma spinning at 60,000 rpm or greater that reduces the craft's effective weight by 87%, supplemented by atomic engines providing thrust — with a diameter of approximately 600 feet, operating out of Area 51 and bases in the British Isles.

Aurora program and black-program lineage

Fouché linked the TR-3B to a broader AURORA program that also included the SR-75 Penetrator — a hypersonic reconnaissance aircraft claimed to have replaced the SR-71 Blackbird — and its smaller sibling, the TR-3A reconnaissance triangle. According to Fouché, the TR-3B is the fully electrogravitic component of the program, the SR-75 represents transitional aerospace with scramjet propulsion, and the TR-3A a smaller, more conventional reconnaissance airframe. No source cited here attributes the platform to a specific manufacturer beyond the general USAF black-budget program, and the popular attribution to the Lockheed Martin Skunk Works remains unconfirmed.[citation needed]

Reported sightings

The first large-scale public documentation of a triangular craft consistent with the TR-3B description came during the Belgian UFO wave of 1989–1990, in which over 2,600 sightings of large triangular objects with lights at each corner were reported within six months across Belgium — including by Belgian Air Force radar operators and Gendarmerie ground patrols. The most notable incident occurred on the night of 30–31 March 1990, when a member of the armed forces reported three unusual lights on the underside of a triangular object; the observation was independently reported by a ground patrol and simultaneously detected on radar, and Chief of Operations of the Air Staff General Wilfried De Brouwer deployed multiple F-16 fighters to intercept — an unprecedented military response to a UAP event in Western Europe. The F-16s achieved radar lock over the Ardennes, but the craft executed acceleration maneuvers exceeding their performance envelope before the lock could be maintained. Although mainstream media attributed the sightings to "mass hysteria," De Brouwer disagreed publicly: the witnesses — many of them police officers who had never previously met — gave sincere, consistent accounts of a craft exhibiting behaviour impossible for any known aircraft. A similar wave of triangular craft sightings in the UK — the Cosford incident of 30–31 March 1993 — fell on the anniversary of the Belgian event, with Air Force witnesses describing a craft moving slowly at low altitude with a deep sub-audible hum before accelerating to extreme speeds. Because the Belgian wave preceded Fouché's claimed 1994 first flight by roughly five years, the two are not straightforwardly reconciled.

Triangular craft consistent with the TR-3B description have since been reported by thousands of witnesses worldwide: massive silent triangles with three corner lights and a central light, observed from close enough range to make clear that no known aircraft configuration was involved.

Patent record

A patent for a spacecraft matching the TR-3B description — "a spacecraft having a triangular hull with vertical electrostatic line charges on each corner that produce a horizontal electric field parallel to the sides of the hull" which, interacting with plane waves emitted by hull-mounted antennas, "generates a force per volume combining both lift and propulsion" — was filed and subsequently abandoned in 2006. Rogan and the researcher AJ Gentile of The Why Files discussed the patent on the Joe Rogan Experience, with Gentile characterizing it as "a real experimental aircraft" whose propulsion derived from electromagnetic field interaction rather than conventional aerodynamic forces. Rogan connected the TR-3B to Desert Storm sightings of a smaller triangular aircraft designated TR-3A, and summarized the prevalent online description of the drive: "There are lots of claims over the internet about TR-3B's anti gravity drive, most of which include using nuclear power to rotate highly pressurized mercury to produce plasma and in turn a gravitational field" — a description that tracks what Fouché himself already published rather than adding an independently sourced claim.

Successor

Greer has stated that the Tic Tac-shaped craft observed in recent military encounters is attributed within insider circles to Lockheed Martin and is regarded as the successor platform to the TR-3B triangle.
