Faster-than-light propulsion

Faster-than-light propulsion (FTL) describes any propulsion method that allows a craft or its cargo to travel between two points in less time than light traveling through vacuum. While FTL travel is prohibited for massive objects in special relativity, several theoretical frameworks and claimed technologies either circumvent the prohibition or reframe it, and secret space program (SSP) whistleblowers report operational FTL travel as a routine feature of interstellar craft.

The distance problem

The nearest stellar system, Alpha Centauri, lies approximately 4.24 light-years from Earth. At the highest speed ever achieved by any human-built vehicle (the Parker Solar Probe at roughly 163 km/s), a journey to Alpha Centauri would require approximately 7,800 years. FTL propulsion is therefore a prerequisite for any plausible model of non-human civilization maintaining regular contact with Earth or operating across stellar distances on human-relatable timescales.

Theoretical frameworks

Alcubierre warp drive

In 1994, Mexican physicist Miguel Alcubierre demonstrated that Einstein's field equations admit a solution in which a bubble of flat spacetime is surrounded by a region of contracted space ahead of the craft and expanded space behind it. The bubble (and anything inside it) moves faster than light relative to distant observers without any object inside exceeding the local speed of light. The drive requires negative energy density — exotic matter — in quantities that early calculations suggested were unphysically large, though subsequent work by Harold White at NASA's Eagleworks laboratory significantly reduced the energy requirement by modifying bubble geometry.

Hal Puthoff, who analyzed UAP propulsion physics as part of the AATIP program's physics survey, described spacetime metric engineering — including the Alcubierre metric — as among the theoretical models commissioned for the program's 38-paper technical report series.

Traversable wormholes

A wormhole (Einstein-Rosen bridge) is a topological shortcut connecting two distant regions of spacetime. The traversable wormhole proposed by Kip Thorne in 1988 — motivated by Carl Sagan's novel Contact — requires exotic matter to hold its throat open but would otherwise allow FTL transit between arbitrary points. The Defense Intelligence Agency's declassified AATIP technical papers explicitly include Traversal Wormholes, Star Gates and Negative Energy as one of the commissioned studies, indicating active U.S. government research interest.

Footage attributed to MH370's disappearance is argued to show two Navy orb-type craft inducing a traversable wormhole by converging their electromagnetic fields to exceed the Schwinger limit, creating a region of nonlinear spacetime through which the aircraft transits.

Scalar macroscopic phase conjugation

Thomas E. Bearden and his successors describe FTL capability as arising from macroscopic phase conjugation — the engineering of a region of space where electromagnetic stress eliminates the resistance of the quantum vacuum to motion, allowing an enclosed craft to effectively fall through spacetime rather than push against it. This mechanism is identified with what Puthoff terms spacetime metric engineering and with the warp bubble visible in classified footage.

Claimed operational use

The United States has possessed operational warp drive capability since at least the early 2000s, with the theoretical basis having been available since Tesla's era.

SSP accounts, including those of Corey Goode, Randy Cramer, and French whistleblowers, describe jump drives aboard Solar Warden-class vessels that translate craft between stellar systems near-instantaneously by folding spacetime, with no subjective transit time experienced by occupants.
