Watchers
The Watchers (Hebrew: Irin; also the Grigori, from the Greek egrēgoroi, "the wakeful ones") are a class of beings described in the Book of Enoch and other early Jewish and Christian apocryphal texts as divine agents who descended to Earth, intermarried with human women, produced hybrid offspring known as the Nephilim, and transmitted forbidden knowledge — including metallurgy, astronomy, medicine, and sorcery — to humanity. In ancient astronaut theory and exopolitics research, the Watchers are re-interpreted as extraterrestrial or extra-dimensional beings who conducted an unsanctioned program of genetic hybridization and technology transfer — a pattern researchers argue is indistinguishable from the modern UFO abduction phenomenon. Their offspring, the Nephilim, are counted among the humanoid giants; in the ancient-astronaut reading the Watchers are further identified with the Mesopotamian Apkallu sages and the lower Anunnaki/Igigi, and in recent whistleblower testimony with the "Sleeping Giants" recovered in suspended animation, from whom Anunnaki DNA is said to be extracted.
Ancient texts
The Book of Enoch (1 Enoch, chapters 1–36, the "Book of the Watchers") names 20 leader Watchers — including Semjaza, Azazel, Shamsiel, Baraqijal, Kokabel, Penemue, and others — and describes their collective descent on Mount Hermon, their forbidden unions with human women, and the resulting catastrophe that prompted the divine council to commission Noah's flood as a correction.
Each Watcher leader is associated with a specific class of forbidden knowledge transmitted to humans in exchange for access to women:
- Azazel: swords, knives, shields, breastplates, metalworking, precious stones, cosmetics
- Semjaza: enchantments, root-cutting, and the resolving of spells
- Baraqijal: astrology; Kokabel: the constellations; Penemue: writing and reading the signs of the earth
The canonical Bible retains the parallel passage in Genesis 6:1–4 but removes the explicit names, organizations, and enumerated forbidden knowledge that appear in Enoch. The Book of Enoch was treated as canonical by the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and some early Christian communities; it was excluded from the Hebrew and Christian canons by synodal decision.
Mesopotamian background
The Assyriologist Amar Annus argues that the Enochian Watchers are a Jewish inversion of the Mesopotamian Apkallu — the seven antediluvian fish-cloaked sages sent by Enki to teach humanity civilization, recorded by Berossus — the benefactor-sages of the cuneiform tradition recast as transgressors who brought forbidden knowledge.
Exopolitics interpretation
In ancient astronaut theory frameworks and exopolitics research, the Watchers are interpreted as a distinct group of non-human intelligent beings who operated semi-independently of the main Anunnaki program. L.A. Marzulli, a researcher who has lectured on Nephilim and UFOs in both church and conference settings, argues that the Watcher/Nephilim template maps directly onto the modern UFO abduction phenomenon: the exchange of technology for biological access to humans is structurally identical in both frameworks.
Michael Salla and researchers drawing on the Book of Enoch connect the Watchers to accounts of extraterrestrial genetic hybridization, the transmission of advanced technology to early humans, and to the Pre-Adamite lineages described in Corey Goode's Antarctic testimony. The Watchers in this reading are distinct from the Anunnaki proper and may correspond to a separate faction engaged in unsanctioned genetic experimentation — the reason for the divine condemnation in the text.
Marzulli explicitly describes the Watchers as interdimensional rather than interplanetary: "These are inter-dimensional, extra-dimensional entities which are messing with the genome and they bring knowledge with them... They can manipulate space, time, matter and energy just in the same way we find in UFOlogy and modernity."
The Nephilim as hybrids
The offspring of Watcher-human unions — the Nephilim — are described in the Book of Enoch as giants, and are identified in Genesis 6:4 as "the mighty men of old, the men of renown." Dr. Joseph Farrell argues that the Nephilim and the Anakh (Sumerian: Anunnaki) are the same group of beings rendered in different linguistic traditions: "I think that they are predominantly... the Sumerian term, the other is the Hebrew term."
Farrell further argues that the post-war cosmology of the Slavonic Book of Enoch describes a quarantine zone around Earth bounded either by the Moon's orbit or Saturn's — enforced after a cosmic war between factions that Farrell identifies as remnants of an ancient Solar system civilization whose destruction is encoded in the Tiamat myth.
Cosmic oversight and Inner Earth command centers
According to Craig Campobasso's The Extraterrestrial Species Almanac (no specific contactee named for the Watcher entry — compiled from general esoteric and ET literature), the Watchers originate from "Central Control," described as the nerve center of the universe. They are human-looking but considerably taller than average humans, with females standing 5'11" to 7' and males 6' to 8', and are distinguished by long, snowflake-colored hair. Campobasso classifies them as ascended and created masters who maintain Inner Earth command centers housing a real-time holographic duplicate of the entire planet, through which they monitor all life on Earth second by second via what the text describes as avatar-level biological supercomputers. The Watchers report to a universal hierarchy and follow a strict noninterference policy, intervening only in cases involving pollutants or atomic weapons — a stance Campobasso frames within the Cosmic Law of One. This account — of benevolent overseers stationed inside the Earth, monitoring humanity in real time, and intervening only under extreme circumstances — parallels and potentially corroborates the guardian-angel interpretation offered by Jason Sands from direct experience in joint ET-government programs.
Jason Sands and contemporary NHI overseers
SSP whistleblower Jason Sands describes encountering beings he identifies as potentially the Watchers of the ancient texts — extraterrestrials who appeared to monitor and protect him across his career in joint ET-government programs: "Maybe they're kind of like what the Bible is talking about... maybe they're kind of like guardian angels of some kind, or the watchers that people have said that, yeah, these are the people that actually are extraterrestrials and show up in our ancient texts."
As a Galactic Federation of Worlds violation
According to exopolitics developed by Michael Salla and others, the Watcher program constitutes a paradigmatic violation of the GFW's non-interference protocols. The Watchers transmitted technology — metallurgy, weapons, astronomy, sorcery — to humanity before the population had developed the ethical maturity to responsibly use it. This mirrors the structural argument made by the GFW regarding Anunnaki colonization: the premature introduction of advanced knowledge to a developing civilization produces catastrophic social disruption. The resulting Nephilim/giant hybrids and the global societal violence they caused required a planetary reset event — the Flood — to correct. Isaac Weishaupt, noting the structural parallel to the UFO phenomenon, observes that "this idea of technology being gifted from the quote-unquote gods has been talked about from the dawn of time" — beginning with the Watcher/Hermon narrative and repeating across all subsequent contact cycles.
The Genesis 6 compression and oath-taking
Jason Jorjani established the Watcher narrative's connection to the broader ET-religion thesis on American Alchemy: "The sons of the Elohim came down, and they found the daughters of man fair, and they inbred with them... And the earth was full of iniquity. Seriously, in two paragraphs, you're going to tell us that God regretted the entire creation and wiped the whole world clean? There's a backstory here, and you find the backstory preserved in the Book of Enoch." Jesse Michels connected the Watchers explicitly to the modern UFO disclosure debate by noting that Jacques Vallée — in Michels's own conversations — was "very interested in the devil, and demons, and fallen angels" as the primary framework for understanding UAP, with Vallée attributing the phenomenon to the same non-human intelligence operative across all historical periods.
Chapter 6 of 1 Enoch describes 200 Watchers descending onto Mount Hermon, where they take an oath together before their leader Semjaza to proceed with their plan to take human wives, despite recognizing that the action violates their mandate. The oath-taking is significant in the ancient astronaut reading: it implies that the Watchers understood they were operating outside authorized parameters and chose to proceed regardless — the behavior of a dissident faction rather than an authorized program.
Nephilim soullessness and Lazar parallel
L.A. Marzulli noted that the Nephilim are explicitly described as soulless in his framework — hybrid physical beings without the divine breath (neshamah) that animates humans — making them, in his view, vehicles for other entities rather than full persons: "The Nephilim are entities that are soulless. They have no soul. In my opinion they are soulless. They are in a fixed state. They are the progeny of the watchers and the human women of earth creating a hybrid being." Marzulli also drew the technology-transfer connection to the Bob Lazar case explicitly: "It's one of the watcher angels — Sari gives the course of the moon — that's ancient wisdom. No one knew that... And then you have back-engineering the propulsion system at S-4. The book of Enoch says the same thing that the watchers come down — they give technology for access to the population. It's the same stinking thing going on."
Physical artifact evidence
Marzulli reported physical artifact evidence for Nephilim/Watcher presence in the New World: "We believe that the Nephilim came over to the New World about 3000 years ago, roughly, and we have artifacts that seem to prove that." These artifacts include oversized skeletal remains, out-of-place artifacts (ooparts) from the Americas displaying apparent Middle Eastern cultural connections, and large-scale stone constructions at sites including the Hopewell mounds of Ohio, which Marzulli identifies as constructed on an 18.5-year lunar cycle that could only have been calculated with knowledge transmitted by the Watchers.
Two-faction reading: good and bad Watchers
Timothy Alberino emphasizes that the biblical and extra-biblical traditions preserve not a uniform depiction of the Watchers as malevolent but a consistent two-faction portrait: loyal Watchers who operate within their authorized mandate, and the dissident faction that descended to Earth, interbred with human women, and transmitted forbidden technology. Both factions are drawn from the same Elder Race; the fallen Watchers' transgression is framed as a jurisdictional violation — interbreeding with and empowering a younger species — rather than an intrinsic evil of their kind. Alberino identifies the first portion of the Book of Enoch, The Book of the Watchers, as a historical narrative in this literal sense: "It details the activity of the Watchers and their pro-generation of hybrid giants on earth with human women and so forth... The Book of the Watchers is written as a historical narrative."
The loyal faction's continued presence in biblical narratives is evidenced for Alberino by the Book of Daniel, in which a council of Watchers renders judicial authority over the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar, decreeing a period of animal consciousness as punishment: "The watchers of heaven are directly interacting, even in a political sense, on earth — and this is coming from the good guys in the biblical narrative. So you have two factions of the same race of beings operating on earth, one for the benefit of mankind and one to its detriment."
Salla on premature technology transfer
Michael Salla reads the specific list of knowledge domains transmitted by the Watchers in 1 Enoch — metallurgy, warfare, astronomy, timekeeping, cosmetics, writing — as evidence that the Watcher program represented a premature technological acceleration of human civilization. He identifies this as "signs of civilization" — the very markers archaeologists use to define the transition from hunter-gatherer to complex society — transmitted before humanity was developmentally prepared to manage them: "It's kind of like giving matches to a two-year-old. I mean, you can imagine what's going to happen when you do something like that. Well, apparently the civilization at the time wasn't quite ready for this kind of technology. And war broke out." Salla argues that the Watchers should be understood as extraterrestrials rather than supernatural angels on the basis of the Sumerian parallel, where the same beings are described as traveling in technological vehicles: "In the Book of Enoch, they're described as angels, but they're not really angels — they're Extraterrestrial. And how do we know that? Well, the Extraterrestrial, the Nephilim in the Sumerian tradition, it's quite clear that these are Extraterrestrial because they travel around in technology, in flying ships, in rocket ships."
Imprisonment in Tartarus
The Book of Enoch describes the condemned Watchers being bound and imprisoned in a deep pit — identified in some translations as Tartarus — awaiting final judgment at the end of the age. In the New Testament, 2 Peter 2:4 references God casting sinning angels down to Tartarus and committing them "to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment," which most commentators identify as the Watcher imprisonment narrative. In the exopolitics reading, this binding corresponds to a GFW quarantine action: the rogue NHI faction responsible for the Nephilim program was isolated from further access to Earth's population. The parallel in the Sumerian texts is the confinement of the rebel Igigi after their uprising at the mines of Enlil.
Connection to the Promethean myth
Jason Jorjani, philosopher and author of Prometheus and Atlas, identifies a cross-cultural through-line connecting the Watchers to the Promethean archetype: the rebel divine figure who transgresses the will of the controlling gods by gifting humanity with forbidden knowledge. In his formulation, the same archetype appears as Enki in Sumerian mythology, Prometheus in the Greek tradition, Quetzalcoatl in the Mayan context, and the rebel Ashura in Hinduism — and, in the Judeo-Christian tradition, as the serpent in Eden and subsequently as Lucifer. Each iteration preserves the same structure: a faction of advanced beings defies the planetary overlords to transmit consciousness-expanding or technologically empowering knowledge to humanity, and is punished for doing so. The Watcher narrative in the Book of Enoch is the earliest textual version of this recurring mytheme.
