Michael Schratt is an American aerospace illustrator and researcher specializing in classified and unacknowledged aircraft programs — known for producing detailed technical illustrations of alleged black budget aircraft from witness descriptions and leaked documents, and for his cataloguing of reported secret space program (SSP) vehicles including those alleged to have been seen at or around Area 51, Tonopah Test Range, and related black site facilities in Nevada and surrounding states.
Background and methodology
Schratt is a self-taught aerospace historian and technical illustrator who developed his specialty in the 1980s and 1990s through interviews with former military and defense contractor personnel. He has described his methodology as forensic reconstruction: collecting dimensional, performance, and interior-layout descriptions from witnesses who claimed firsthand access to classified facilities, then converting those descriptions into detailed AutoCAD and 3D-rendered drawings that allow the UAP research community to assess consistency across independent accounts. He has served as a contributor to Open Minds magazine and has presented his research at the International UFO Congress, the National UFO Conference, and numerous other venues. An announcer at the International UFO Congress described him as "an aerospace historian and a draftsman... an expert in black projects" who made his name by creating television-quality 3D renderings of craft described by witnesses with alleged S-4 access.
Schratt has also collaborated directly with Steven Greer on illustrated crash retrieval documentation. Greer described the collaboration publicly in 2025, identifying Schratt specifically as a "crash retrieval expert" who produced illustrated records of both historic and more recent alleged crash retrievals: "I collaborated with the crash retrieval expert Michael Schratt on this. And this is a whole collection of both the historic but also the newer crash retrieval, all illustrated."
Black budget aircraft research
Schratt has presented at the International UFO Congress and other venues on the subject of unacknowledged aircraft programs — including the alleged Aurora hypersonic reconnaissance aircraft (purportedly the successor to the SR-71 Blackbird), the TR-3B triangular aircraft reportedly described by witnesses at Belgian sightings (1989–1990) and elsewhere, and craft with disc, diamond, or triangular planforms reported near classified bases. His methodology involves collecting witness testimony from former military and defense contractor personnel and creating technical illustrations based on dimensional and performance descriptions.
TR-3B and triangular craft
Schratt is particularly associated with documentation of the TR-3B — a large triangular aircraft alleged by witnesses to use field propulsion reducing its gravitational mass significantly, allowing conventional jet engines to maneuver it at speeds impossible for conventional aircraft. The TR-3B has been described in testimony from former military personnel including Edgar Fouche, who claimed to have worked on the program at Sandia National Laboratories and Tonopah Test Range in the late 1980s and 1990s. Schratt's illustrations of the TR-3B have become the standard visual reference in UFO research literature on triangular craft.
S-4 facility documentation
One of Schratt's most cited contributions is his floor-by-floor virtual blueprint of the S-4 underground facility near Area 51 — an alleged unacknowledged installation reportedly described by Bob Lazar, Dan Burisch, and Bill Uhouse as the location where back-engineered extraterrestrial craft were allegedly tested and stored. Working from interviews with Burisch and cross-referencing with independent Lazar and Uhouse testimony, Schratt produced AutoCAD cutaway drawings of the nine-hangar facility including the Propulsion Research Laboratory, the catwalk connecting hangar bays, the files department, cafeteria, and the airlock systems separating the pressurized alien craft areas from the surrounding rock.
Schratt's S-4 research specifically documented the alleged P-45 craft — described in Burisch testimony as a 52-foot-diameter, 16-foot-high "sport model" with a smooth polished aluminum exterior, three internal levels, and an iris-aperture bottom hatch used for the primary propulsion system discharge. Schratt noted that three independent witnesses — Lazar, Uhouse, and Burisch — independently described the same physical configuration, which he treated as corroborative triangulation.
The 1947 nexus
Schratt has developed a specific historical argument around the convergence of three events in 1947: the Roswell crash (July 2, 1947), the creation of the CIA, and the formation of the independent United States Air Force — all occurring within the same calendar year and, in his interpretation, representing a coordinated institutional response to the confirmed reality of non-human intelligence. He considers this triad not coincidental but structurally connected — the crash providing the impetus, the CIA and Air Force reorganization providing the institutional machinery for long-term concealment and study.
Work with Jeremy Rys
Researcher Jeremy Rys (Alien Scientist) has also worked directly with Schratt on Bob Lazar documentation, using Lazar's descriptions of Element 115, craft geometry, and propulsion principles to produce technical renderings: "From his descriptions of all that — from his descriptions, Michael Schratt — I work with Michael Schratt and what he does is he takes up those witness descriptions and makes technical drawings out of it."
S-4 alien autopsy interviews
Schratt's independent research extended to cross-checking claimed S-4 facility layout details against alleged alien autopsy testimony. Researcher Jon Stewart noted that early descriptions of an interview suite at S-4 were initially suspected disinformation — until Schratt independently interviewed Dan Burisch, who confirmed no such interview suites existed at the reported location: "I thought was disinformation when I first heard it, until Michael Schratt talked to Dan Burisch, who was also down there in S-4, and said there were no interview suites in S-4."
