Derrel Sims

Derrel Sims, known as "The Alien Hunter," is a former CIA operative, certified hypnotherapist, and alien abduction investigator who developed forensic methods for documenting physical evidence in abduction cases, most notably an ultraviolet (UV) fluorescence screening protocol that revealed marks at reported implant sites invisible under standard lighting. He is principally known for his long-term research collaboration with podiatric surgeon Roger Leir, through which Sims handled abduction case investigation and subject screening while Leir performed the surgical removal and laboratory analysis of alleged alien implants.

Biography

Background

Sims served in the CIA and subsequently trained as a certified hypnotherapist before turning his investigative skills to the abduction phenomenon. His military and intelligence background informed his approach to abduction research: treating witness testimony as field intelligence requiring corroboration by physical or physiological evidence, an approach that set him apart from the predominantly hypnotic regression-based methodology of most abduction researchers of his era.

Alien implants

Sims developed a pre-surgical screening procedure using ultraviolet light applied to the skin of subjects who reported possible alien implants. Under UV illumination, fluorescent marks appeared at locations corresponding to the subjects' reported insertion wounds — marks entirely invisible under white light. Beginning in the 1990s, he partnered with Roger Leir through the nonprofit A&S Research to systematically investigate implant claims, together investigating hundreds of reported cases. The surgically extracted objects shared anomalous properties — no surrounding fibrous rejection capsule, direct neural interfacing, radio-frequency emission, and isotope ratios inconsistent with terrestrial manufacture.

James Fox, who spoke with Leir in 2013 while developing documentary research on the Varginha incident, described Leir as still actively contacting researchers and pursuing evidence until shortly before his death in March 2014.

Sims also circulated UFO photographic evidence to other researchers for authentication. Robert, a guest on Dr. Michael Salla's Exopolitics Today podcast, described receiving photographs from Sims of UFOs swarming over the US Capitol in Washington, D.C., taken on July 16, 2002: "I got an email from Darryl Sims. He's the alien hunter, so called. I knew Darryl. I'd known him for a while and he sent me an email with pictures of UFOs swarming over the Capitol. One had actually landed on the Capitol roof."

SABER

Sims founded SABER (Suspected Alien Biological Entity Research) as a structured research organization dedicated to the physical investigation of the abduction phenomenon, emphasizing physical evidence collection — dermatological samples, photographs, physiological measurements — rather than hypnotic regression alone.
