The Elffaf are a mammalian non-human species from two home worlds in the Aigir system orbiting Arsellus Primus (Theta Boötis), a solar type F7V star in the Boötes constellation — planets Harsana-Mubunu and Igir — approximately 1,000 light years from Earth. Peaceful and benevolent, they are barely involved in galactic politics and are primarily interested in exosciences. Both A Gift from the Stars and Encyclopedia Galactica Volume I are sourced from Thor Han Eredyon's transmissions to Elena Danaan; because both compilations derive from the same source chain, they are not independent corroborations of each other. Though superficially resembling the Solipsi Rai, they share no genetic relationship — not even distantly — yet like the Solipsi Rai they operate as individuated consciousnesses interfacing as a planetary collective.

Star system and dual homeworlds

Arsellus Primus (Theta Boötis) is classified as an F7V star — a yellow-white main-sequence star slightly hotter and more massive than Earth's Sun, lying in the Boötes constellation. The Elffaf system is designated the Aigir system by its inhabitants. Unusually, the Elffaf inhabit two separate home planets — Harsana-Mubunu and Igir — both orbiting within the Aigir system. Whether these worlds were settled by migration or represent a species that independently evolved on parallel bodies in the same system is not specified. This dual-planet origin is uncommon in catalogued species and may contribute to the Elffaf's pragmatic, science-focused orientation — civilizations that manage multiple inhabited worlds typically develop robust logistical and scientific infrastructure.

Biology and reproduction

A notable characteristic of the Elffaf is that they are mammalian — a rare trait among gray-type species, which are more commonly associated with non-mammalian or hybrid biologies. The Elffaf have four genders, three of which participate in the breeding process: two assigned to procreate and a third to carry the embryo to term — a biological arrangement found in many galactic species, though described as extremely rare among Gray races specifically. The fourth gender is non-fertile and tends toward scientific pursuits, endowed with higher psychic abilities.

The Elffaf's near-total absence from galactic political drama is described as characteristic rather than circumstantial. They belong to no listed galactic federation, empire, or alliance, maintaining full independence. Despite this general non-involvement, the Encyclopedia Galactica notes that the Elffaf played a supportive role in the Orion Wars, assisting the Black League resistance.
