The Jason Society, also called the Jason Scholars or the Order of the Quest, is, according to Naval Intelligence whistleblower William Cooper, a secret society of scholars from which the inner membership of the alleged MJ-12 alien-control committee was drawn. Cooper described it as the elite intellectual layer of the UFO cover-up — a body that, in his account, President Eisenhower commissioned to sift the evidence of the extraterrestrial presence and find the truth of the alien question, and whose members supplied the "Wise Men" who sat on the secret committee.
In Cooper's framework the society is a distinct referent from the control committee itself: where the committee — Majesty Twelve, or MJ-12 — held executive authority under the President's code word "Majesty," the Jason Society was the recruiting and analytic order behind it, supplying personnel rather than wielding the committee's power. The two overlap in membership but are not the same body.
Membership and recruitment
Per Cooper, the Jason Scholars recruited from the Skull and Bones society of Yale University and the Scroll and Key society, and its senior members were the six "Wise Men" of the Council on Foreign Relations whom Eisenhower appointed to the MJ-12 committee — among them John J. McCloy, Robert A. Lovett, Averell Harriman, Charles E. Bohlen, George F. Kennan, and Dean Acheson. Cooper put the society's contribution to the committee at the level of an advisory and scientific elite, and elsewhere counted the broader Majesty Twelve membership as nineteen once the scholars and scientists were included, naming physicist Edward Teller among them. Cooper held the order to be a continuation of older secret societies and tied it, in his wider conspiracy writing, to the Council on Foreign Relations and the Trilateral Commission.
Relationship to the documented JASON group
Cooper's "Jason Society" should be distinguished from the JASON group, the real and separately documented body of senior scientists that has advised the U.S. government on defense and technical matters since 1960. Cooper drew on the existence and mystique of the actual JASON scientists, folding them into his account as the "six members from the JASON scientific group" he said sat within the alien-control committee; the identification of that genuine advisory panel with a Skull-and-Bones-recruited secret society sworn to the UFO secret is Cooper's own and is not part of the documented history of JASON.
Assessment
The Jason Society rests on Cooper's testimony and on his reading of materials he said he saw in Naval Intelligence; no independent documentation establishes a secret order of that name behind Majestic 12. Within the UAP disclosure movement the claim is generally received as part of Cooper's larger, much-debated Operation Majority narrative — valued by some researchers for its internal detail and treated by others as an elaboration unsupported by the leaked Majestic papers, which name a twelve-person committee but no associated scholarly society.
