Barack Obama (b. 1961) was the 44th President of the United States (2009–2017) and, in exopolitics and UAP disclosure testimony, a president who received a briefing on classified NHI programs but whose administration took no substantive disclosure steps, with multiple accounts suggesting he encountered the same wall of institutional resistance to UAP information access that his predecessors had faced — and that at least some classified programs had become so compartmentalized that even presidential inquiries were successfully deflected. Obama made several notable public comments on the UAP subject, including a 2021 appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden in which he acknowledged that recordings existed of objects whose origins were unknown, that efforts to explain them had been unsuccessful, and that the subject was being taken seriously — the first such acknowledgment by a former U.S. president in modern media.
Presidential UAP access
Obama's nuanced 2021 statements — confirming unexplained sightings, avoiding full denial, but declining to confirm NHI origin — are interpreted in exopolitics commentary as consistent with a president who received limited briefings rather than full classified disclosure. Richard Dolan's research on "UFOs and the National Security State" documents the pattern of presidents receiving limited UAP information and being directed to defer to classified program managers rather than the elected chain of command.
In a later interview Obama stated that "we can't talk about that and we don't get much access to it," a formulation cited by Steven Greer as consistent with a president informed the programs existed but blocked from operational detail. Congressional recognition
The 2023 House Oversight Committee hearing on UAP — at which David Grusch, Ryan Graves, and David Fravor testified — noted in its opening remarks that UAP sightings had "captivated the attention of our nation's leaders, from Jimmy Carter to Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton to Donald Trump," placing Obama explicitly among the line of U.S. presidents whose administrations had encountered but not resolved the UAP question.
