The simulation hypothesis is the philosophical and scientific position that physical reality as experienced by conscious beings may be a computational simulation — potentially run by a post-human civilization, extraterrestrial intelligence, or higher-dimensional beings for whom the simulated universe is a deliberate creation. In exopolitics, the hypothesis is treated not as mere speculation but as a literal description of the 3D Matrix — the artificial frequency cage superimposed over five-dimensional (5D) Earth by off-world control systems — a framework described by Taygetan contacts channeled through Cosmic Agency. The simulation hypothesis intersects with consciousness research, holographic universe theory, and disclosure of ET control systems.
Academic formulation
The most widely cited academic formulation is philosopher Nick Bostrom's 2003 trilemma, published in the journal Philosophical Quarterly: either (1) almost all civilizations at a "posthuman" stage of development go extinct before developing simulation capability; or (2) posthuman civilizations consistently choose not to run large numbers of ancestor simulations; or (3) we are almost certainly living in a computer simulation. Bostrom argued that at least one of these must be true — and that the third is not obviously the least likely.
The argument rests on substrate independence — the principle that conscious experience requires only the right computational organization, not any particular physical medium. If consciousness can be instantiated in silicon as effectively as in neurons, then a sufficiently powerful computer could host billions of simulated minds indistinguishable from biological ones, and the ratio of simulated minds to real ones would be astronomically high, making it statistically probable that any given mind is simulated.
Entrepreneur Elon Musk made the simulation hypothesis mainstream in a 2016 Recode conference statement, asserting that "the odds that we are in base reality is one in billions" given the advancement of computing. His reasoning paralleled Bostrom: given that video games already create immersive worlds, it is statistically unlikely that one is in the original, "base" layer of reality rather than one of the countless simulated layers running on top of it. Physicist Max Tegmark has elaborated mathematically, arguing that the physical universe is itself a mathematical structure — which makes the distinction between "real" and "simulated" potentially meaningless.
Taygetan description of the 3D Matrix
Swaruu of Erra and Aneeka of Temmer, Taygetan contacts in communication with Cosmic Agency researcher Gosia, described the simulation from the vantage point of those operating outside it. They describe the three-dimensional experience of reality as a holographic overlay on the five-dimensional substrate, maintained by an advanced computational system that translates frequencies into the apparent solidity of objects, events, and persons.
Swaruu clarified that "real objects" — natural landscapes, mountains, rivers — exist in five-dimensional reality and are experienced in 3D through a perceptual filter. The artificial elements of the simulation are the artificial cities and control structures superimposed on top of that genuine 5D substrate.
The Taygetans described the mechanism as operating through frequency maps — the computer system (operated by beings outside the simulation) reads a frequency map, assigns holographic physical representations to each frequency, and projects them into the experience of 3D beings. Objects can be altered by thought as well as by the operators of the system. This dual-layer ontology — the simulation is both "false" from one perspective and "real" from another — was articulated directly: "Reality is a simulation and everything is a false hologram and it is also reality and must be taken as such because experience is the real thing and as everything is experience, everything is real for you."
Scientific arguments
Several lines of scientific evidence are cited in support of the simulation hypothesis beyond philosophical argument:

Fine-tuning of physical constants: The precise numerical values of the fundamental constants of nature (gravitational constant, speed of light, electromagnetic coupling constant) occupy an extraordinarily narrow range compatible with the existence of complex matter and life. A simulated universe would naturally have its constants set by its programmers; the apparent fine-tuning is exactly what one would expect in a designed simulation.

Quantization of space: Modern physics describes spacetime as discrete at the Planck length — a smallest possible unit of distance below which the concept of distance is undefined. Discrete, quantized spacetime is precisely the architecture of a computational simulation in which space is stored as a finite-resolution grid.

Computational limits: Physicist Silas Beane and colleagues at the University of Washington have proposed that if the universe is a simulation running on a regular lattice, high-energy cosmic rays should show a characteristic angular cutoff corresponding to the lattice spacing — a feature that could in principle be detected observationally.

Observer effect in quantum mechanics: The Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics holds that particles do not have definite properties until observed — they exist in superposition. The simulation analogy is direct: a simulation need not render the positions of particles until they are accessed by an observer, conserving computational resources. The fact that quantum mechanics is structured this way is consistent with the universe operating as an optimized computation.
ET implications
The simulation hypothesis raises a bifurcation for exopolitics: are extraterrestrials also simulated inhabitants of the same computational layer? Or are some of them the operators — the beings running the simulation from outside?
Taygetan testimony suggests both are possible. The majority of ET civilizations in contact with humanity exist in higher frequency bands of the same fundamental reality and are not imprisoned within the 3D simulation — they perceive the simulation from outside as the artificially constrained experience of 3D humans. The operators of the 3D Matrix itself are identified in various contact accounts with AI entities and certain regressive civilizations that profit from the frequency imprisonment of humanity.
Elena Danaan's contact material with the Galactic Federation of Worlds identifies the simulation-layer control system as connected to Nebu (primarily Orion Group) interference with human consciousness, using the Moon and Saturn's rings as broadcasting infrastructure to maintain the frequency fence that creates the illusion of a 3D-only experience. Entities like the Anunnaki are described as having inserted themselves into the simulation as gods precisely because of their superior understanding of its computational architecture.
The simulation hypothesis also intersects with the holographic universe model proposed by physicist David Bohm — in which the three-dimensional world is a projection of a deeper implicate order — and with Thomas Campbell's "My Big TOE" (Theory of Everything), which proposes that consciousness is the fundamental substrate and that physical reality is a virtual reality simulation generated by a "larger consciousness system" for the purpose of entropy reduction and soul evolution.
Exopolitics resolution
In exopolitical terms, the simulation hypothesis is not merely a philosophical puzzle but a political and technological reality with direct implications for the disclosure agenda. If the 3D Matrix is a manufactured frequency prison, then disclosure — the revelation of ET presence and contact — is simultaneously a revelation that the prison exists. The simulation hypothesis thus provides a theoretical framework for understanding why the Veil of forgetting is installed in incarnating humans, why near-death experiencers describe reality as "more real" than ordinary life, and why advanced ETs consistently describe human beings as "asleep" within a controlled dream.
Consciousness-based evidence
Russell Targ's remote viewing data — demonstrating that psychic information access is "independent of distance and independent of time" — provides empirical grounds for a specific version of the simulation hypothesis: if consciousness exists outside ordinary space-time and can access information non-locally, then the space-time "display" perceived by ordinary waking consciousness is not the substrate of reality but a rendered interface layer. Targ describes this through the framework of physicist Minkowski's complex eight-dimensional space-time, in which the imaginary dimensions correspond to consciousness: "Our space-time is actually complex rather than just real... we reside in this timeless space that's available."
Andres Gomez Emilsson of the Qualia Research Institute has explored this from the phenomenological side — noting that high-dose DMT experiences suggest the information processing underlying conscious experience is not generated locally in the brain but "connected to a server": encountering an entity whose visual complexity exceeds anything the brain could generate spontaneously "doesn't seem to be running locally, this is connected to a server now."
Lex Fridman has engaged seriously with simulation theory, describing it in conversation with Joe Rogan as analogous to how a screen gives meaning to underlying digital data — connecting his AI research with exopolitics-adjacent questions about the nature of consciousness and NHI contact.
Michael Phillip identifies a cultural-esoteric tradition that treats the simulation hypothesis not as modern innovation but as the literal content of the Hermetic ascent traditions: the "cosmic ascent rituals" common to Taoism, Platonism, and Hermeticism are understood as procedures for ascending through the rendering layers of the simulation to perceive the underlying computational-consciousness substrate — the goal of all mystery traditions being to "ascend these strata of different layers of reality."
