Exotic material

Exotic material is a loose umbrella term used in UAP and exotic technology research for a physical substance held to be paradigm-shifting either because it performs an otherwise-impossible function inside an alleged device or because its composition, isotopic ratios, or microstructure fall outside known terrestrial parameters, implying a non-human, reverse-engineered, or suppressed origin. The term spans two overlapping families: materials said to be functional in a technology — a working fluid, fuel, or active medium of a propulsion, energy, or weapon system — and materials recovered as physical evidence — fragments and debris analysed to test for anomalous provenance.

The functional family gathers such materials as mercury (the working fluid of the alleged mercury vortex engine and of the TR-3B Magnetic Field Disruptor), the alleged anti-gravity propellant Element 115, the mercury–thorium compound Xerum-525 of the Nazi Bell, and the rumoured Cold War substance red mercury. The recovered-as-evidence family — the Ubatuba magnesium fragments, the layered bismuth-magnesium metamaterial ("Art's Parts"), Nitinol memory metal traced to the Roswell debris, and the Galileo Project ocean spherules — is catalogued and studied under UAP materials and anomalous material analysis, to which this article defers for the full sample record. Two families

The distinction between the two families is one of the roles a material plays in the discourse, not of any sharp chemical boundary — the same substance can appear in both (mercury is both a claimed working fluid and, as red mercury, a claimed weapon material; magnesium is both an ordinary structural metal and, at Ubatuba, an isotopically anomalous fragment).

• Functional in technology. The material is described as doing work inside a device: a rotating or ionised medium (mercury), a nuclear fuel producing gravity waves (Element 115), a fusion-triggering or ballotechnic compound (Xerum-525, red mercury), or a monatomic superconductor (monatomic gold). Evidence for this family is overwhelmingly testimonial and, per the suppression model, the working substance is held to be classified and unavailable for public assay.
• Recovered as physical evidence. The material is a fragment submitted to laboratory analysis — mass spectrometry, electron microscopy, isotopic-ratio measurement — where an anomalous isotopic ratio or an unmanufacturable microstructure is offered as instrumental evidence of non-terrestrial origin.
