Dahl

The Dahl are an alleged non-human humanoid species of Noor Lyran origin who established a colony in the Beta Centauri system, naming their world Dahlnor after the legendary commander Dahel who led their ark there. Beta Centauri, also called Hadar, is a triple stellar system sheltering a great diversity of life-forms — including reptilians, amphibians, and insectoids — scattered across seventeen planets, though all at a sub-civilization level save for the Dahl colony itself. They chose not to join the Galactic Federation of Worlds and live in harmony with all other species across the system as a fully independent entity. The Beta Centauri system is severely guarded and considered an unspoiled haven of peace.

Origin and founding

The Dahl take their name from the commander Dahel, the captain of the Noor Lyran ark that transported their ancestors to Beta Centauri. Their world, Dahlnor, is named in his honour — a pattern of memorial naming seen in other Lyran colonial species such as the Selosi (Alpha Centauri colonists). The Noor were one of the major Lyran humanoid root races; the Dahl's choice to remain entirely independent of the Galactic Federation of Worlds and out of galactic affairs is unusual even among Noor-descended colonies, most of which maintain some degree of involvement in the wider galactic community.

The system's status as "severely guarded" and an "unspoiled haven of peace" implies that the Dahl actively defend their isolation — whether through GFW-adjacent military arrangements or their own capacity is not specified. Their harmony with seventeen planets of sub-civilization life-forms (reptilians, amphibians, insectoids) across the Beta Centauri triple-star system represents an unusual model of non-intervention: the Dahl neither try to civilize nor exploit the other inhabitants of their system.

Comparison with neighbouring Noor colonies

The Beta Centauri system sits within the Alpha/Beta Centauri stellar region — the same zone colonized by the Selosi (Alpha Centauri 4), the Meton (Proxima Centauri), and other Noor descendants. While the Selosi maintain active Galactic Federation of Worlds membership and the Meton have extensive contact with Terrans spanning thousands of years, the Dahl represent the Noor colonial tradition taken to its opposite extreme: complete withdrawal from both the GFW and any form of interstellar engagement. The Beta Centauri system's distance from Terra (approximately 390 light-years, compared to 4.4 light-years for Alpha Centauri) may partially explain this divergence, as the Dahl were never drawn into the orbit of Terran affairs. Elena Danaan noted in a 2022 overview of human-looking extraterrestrial races that the peoples of the Centauri systems — Alpha, Proxima, and Beta — resemble humans and maintain GFW membership but are not actively involved with Earth: "The races from the Centauri systems, Alpha Centauri, Proxima Centauri, Beta Centauri — these ones look like us, but mainly blonde and fair-skinned as well, but these ones are not really involved with Earth."
