Carla Lisbeth Rueckert (July 16, 1943 – April 7, 2015) was an American channel, author, and co-founder of L/L Research — the primary channel for the Ra Contact material (1981–1984), a series of 106 sessions in which a non-human entity calling itself "Ra" communicated through Rueckert in a trance state while researcher Don Elkins posed questions and Jim McCarty transcribed the sessions, producing a five-volume work titled The Law of One that is among the most widely cited channeled texts in exopolitics and consciousness research. Ra identified itself as a sixth-density social memory complex originating from the Venusian system, and the material it produced describes a comprehensive cosmological framework that has influenced a wide range of subsequent contactee accounts, Secret Space Programme testimonies, and consciousness research.
Early Life and Background
Carla Lisbeth Rueckert was born in Lake Forest, Illinois on 16 July 1943. She was raised in a Christian household and maintained a lifelong connection to Christian mysticism that she regarded as fully compatible with, and in some respects illuminated by, the Ra contact. She attended the University of Louisville, where she studied library science and English literature, and it was through the university's environment that she first encountered Don Elkins, a physics professor and aviation engineer who had been conducting formal research into paranormal phenomena and channeling since the late 1950s.
Elkins had been systematically training groups of individuals in channeling since the early 1960s, working from the hypothesis that extraterrestrial entities were attempting to communicate philosophical and cosmological knowledge to humanity and that trained channels could provide a reliable conduit for such communication. Rueckert joined Elkins's study group in Louisville and proved to be an exceptionally stable and accurate channel, eventually becoming the primary instrument for Elkins's ongoing research.
L/L Research
In 1970, Elkins and Rueckert formally founded L/L Research (Love/Light Research) as the organisational home for their channeling and consciousness research activities. L/L Research began publishing channelings from a variety of apparent communicants during the 1970s, with Rueckert serving as primary channel and Elkins as researcher and questioner. The organisation operated on a non-profit basis, distributing transcripts and publications without charge or at minimal cost, on the grounds that spiritual knowledge should not be commodified.
Jim McCarty joined the L/L Research household in 1980 as a partner to Rueckert and served as the third member of the trio — transcriptionist, record-keeper, and protector of Rueckert during the Ra contact sessions, which placed significant physical strain on her.
The Ra Contact (1981–1984)
The Ra contact began on 15 January 1981, when, during a routine channeling session, the communicant identifying itself as "Ra" made contact with Rueckert. The contact was immediately distinguished from previous sessions by its precision, density of information, and the depth of trance state required of Rueckert. Unlike the lighter contact states that characterised most of her previous work, Rueckert's Ra contact sessions involved a complete absence of normal waking consciousness — she had no memory of sessions after returning to normal awareness, and required careful physical monitoring during sessions.
Ra identified itself as a sixth-density social memory complex — a unified collective consciousness composed of entities who had individually completed the evolutionary journey through the lower densities and merged into a shared awareness — originating from the Venusian system. Ra stated that it had previously attempted direct contact with humanity, specifically with ancient Egyptians, offering philosophical and spiritual teachings, but that its teachings had been distorted and used for purposes of power and control rather than the liberation and service Ra intended. Having withdrawn from direct contact, Ra had subsequently sought to assist humanity through other means, and the 1981 contact with the L/L Research group was described as an opportunity to "correct some of the distortions" left by the earlier Egyptian contact.
The sessions were conducted with strict protocols designed to protect both the information quality and Rueckert's physical wellbeing. Elkins posed questions — ranging from cosmological inquiries about the nature of densities and the One Infinite Creator to specific questions about history, technology, and current events — and Ra responded through Rueckert in measured, often highly compressed language that required significant interpretive effort to unpack. McCarty transcribed every session verbatim.
Over 106 sessions spanning January 1981 to March 1984, the Ra contact produced the five-volume The Law of One series, also referred to as the Ra Material. The final session occurred on 15 March 1984; Don Elkins died on 7 November 1984.
The Law of One: Core Teachings
The cosmological and philosophical framework communicated through the Ra contact is among the most comprehensive and internally consistent bodies of channeled material in the modern record. Its central principles include:
The One Infinite Creator: All existence — all consciousness, all matter, all experience — is a single unified entity exploring itself through infinite manifestation. Each conscious being is the Creator experiencing itself from a unique perspective.
The Density System: Consciousness evolves through eight successive densities of awareness and experience. First density encompasses elemental matter; second density encompasses plant and animal life; third density is the "choice density" in which self-aware beings choose the orientation of their evolutionary path — toward service to others or service to self; fourth through sixth densities represent deepening love, wisdom, and unity; seventh density is "the gateway" to the return to the Creator; eighth density is the Creator itself, at which point a new octave of creation begins.
The Harvest: Earth is at the end of a 75,000-year major cycle (comprising three 25,000-year subcycles) and is undergoing a transition from third to fourth density. Souls who have made sufficient progress toward service-to-others or service-to-self polarity will be "harvested" — moving forward in their evolution — while those who have not yet made the choice will repeat a third-density cycle elsewhere.
The Confederation of Planets: A collective of spiritually advanced civilisations from across the galaxy that operates in service to the One Infinite Creator, offering assistance to third-density worlds navigating the harvest transition without violating the free will of their inhabitants. Ra is a member of the Confederation.
The Orion Group: A collective of service-to-self-oriented entities, originating primarily from the Orion star systems, that seeks to control and harvest third-density worlds by promoting negative polarisation — fear, domination, and the concentration of power in the hands of elite groups.
Wanderers: Sixth-density or higher beings who choose to incarnate in human bodies in third density in order to assist with the harvest, accepting the "veil of forgetting" that accompanies third-density incarnation. Ra estimated that several tens of millions of Wanderers were incarnated on Earth at the time of the contact.
David Wilcock's Residence at L/L Research
David Wilcock disclosed that he moved to Louisville, Kentucky, and lived with Jim McCarty and Rueckert at the L/L Research household for nearly two years beginning around early 2003, working alongside them in the house and studying the Ra material intensively during that period. During this period Wilcock described the Law of One as the only text he had encountered that seemed to accurately articulate what certain insider contacts had learned through classified programmes — and that this assessment was shared by an individual known to him as "Bruce," a former Montauk Project participant who arrived at the L/L Research house in December of that year and told Wilcock his experience specifically because the Ra material was the only thing he'd ever read that seemed to articulate what he had learned in those programs.
Wilcock's assessment of the Ra contact methodology
In a public lecture, Wilcock described the Ra contact's method as "tuned trance telepathy" — a very deep trance state in which Rueckert got her mind and chattering ego out of the way and allowed words to come through, a technique he regarded as teachable and distinct from lighter conscious channeling. He identified the L/L Research trio as Don Elkins (a PhD physicist), Rueckert, and McCarty, and characterised the Ra material's endorsement of physicist Dewey Larson's physics — which Elkins interrogated extensively in the sessions — as one of the strongest independent validations of the contact's authenticity, because it pointed Wilcock toward scientific research that did not exist at the time the books were produced in 1981–1983.
Blue Orb Visitations and Channel Validation
David Wilcock disclosed on Cosmic Disclosure that both Rueckert and Jane Roberts (channel of the "Seth" material) had experienced visitations by a blue orb — a phenomenon Wilcock described as "very clearly delineated in the books" — and that this parallel between two of "the best channels in modern times" provided a form of cross-validation for the authenticity of both contact experiences. Wilcock additionally noted that in Cosmic Disclosure, the deleted Session 8 of the Ra contact — omitted from the published Law of One because Don Elkins had not anticipated its content — contained information about "our government" that was too sensitive for Elkins to process at the time.
Influence on Exopolitics and Contactee Accounts
The Law of One was cited extensively by Corey Goode as consistent with classified briefing materials he stated he received during his alleged Secret Space Programme service — he described the Ra material as among the most accurate external accounts of the cosmic situation as he understood it from insider sources. David Wilcock, a researcher and author closely associated with Goode's disclosures, wrote extensively about the Law of One, arguing that the Ra material's cosmological framework provided the theoretical context necessary to understand the activities and motivations of both positive and negative extraterrestrial groups operating in Earth's vicinity.
Michael Salla has similarly cited the Law of One as consistent with multiple contactee and insider accounts, particularly regarding the density framework, the nature of the Confederation, and the reality of the Orion group's activities.
Beyond the exopolitics community, the Law of One influenced numerous subsequent channeled works, New Age philosophical frameworks, and consciousness research programmes. The five-volume series has remained continuously available since publication and has been read by an estimated several million people worldwide.
Post-Contact Work
After the conclusion of the Ra contact in 1984 and the death of Don Elkins, Rueckert continued channeling through the method she called "concept communication" or conscious channeling — a lighter contact state in which she retained awareness during sessions, working primarily with a group of communicants she referred to as "the Confederation contacts." She produced an extensive archive of weekly channeling sessions through L/L Research until shortly before her death in 2015, along with books including A Wanderer's Handbook (2001) and Living the Law of One: 101 (2009).
Rueckert co-wrote A Book of Days: Channelings from the Holy Spirit (1976) with Don Elkins, and Secrets of the UFO (1976), an early synthesis of their channeling research. She maintained an active correspondence with spiritual seekers worldwide and served as a mentor figure for later channelers working in adjacent traditions.
Jim McCarty continued to manage L/L Research after Rueckert's death, maintaining the archive of sessions and continuing to provide free access to the full Law of One text through the organisation's website.
Physical Toll of the Ra Contact
Rueckert's health was significantly compromised during the years of the Ra contact. The depth of trance required for Ra sessions placed physiological demands on her body that Elkins and McCarty worked actively to manage — sessions were conducted with Rueckert in a supine position, carefully monitored, with strict protocols about length and frequency. Despite these precautions, the contact period contributed to long-term health challenges that affected Rueckert for the remainder of her life.
Ra itself commented on this dimension of the contact, noting the risks inherent in deep trance channeling and expressing what it characterised as concern for Rueckert's wellbeing. The protective function that McCarty served during sessions — maintaining a stable energy environment, monitoring Rueckert's physical state, and breaking the contact if necessary — was identified by Ra as essential to the contact's continuation.
Assessments by later researchers
Corey Goode, addressing a question about whether Ra's "harvest" language implied human beings were being treated as crops, offered a contextual interpretation: "I believe the person in the Law of One — Carla Rueckert — when you're in contact with these beings, they're going to use language that's familiar to you. And from what I'm told, she was a very strong Christian and that is language that is used in the Bible. So this was language that she was familiar with that was being used to communicate with her." Goode also noted that the Blue Avians he was in contact with had been asked by SSP Alliance members whether they were "the Ra from the Law of One," and their response — "I am Ra-tier-ra" — was received ambiguously by those present.
Michael Salla characterized the Ra Material's framework as predicting a polarity separation in which those achieving greater than 50% service-to-others ascend to a positive fourth-density Earth, those achieving greater than 95% service-to-self ascend to a negative fourth-density world, and those achieving neither threshold are moved to another third-density planet to repeat the cycle — and noted that since the Ra sessions ended, "there have been a steady stream of psychics, researchers and contactees that have spoken of coming cataclysmic events marking a coming separation of humanity in a planetary harvest."
