The Encyclopedia Galactica is a self-published illustrated reference book by Elena Danaan, published in 2024, cataloguing Stage 3 interstellar civilizations in "Galactic Sector 4" of the Milky Way galaxy with color portraits and cultural profiles. Volume I, subtitled Portraits of the Star Nations: From Andromeda to Canis Minor, covers the first third of the alphabetical range and documents over 150 civilizations spanning constellations from Andromeda to Canis Minor.

Content and scope

The book catalogues Stage 3 interstellar spacefaring cultures — defined by the Prime Directive of the Galactic Federation of Worlds as "culture having reached interstellar capacity and made contact by its own process with another galactic civilization" — within "Galactic Sector 4" of the Galactic Alliance, with exceptions for Seeders-program civilizations from other galaxies. Each entry provides physical description, homeworld and star system (Earth astronomical name and alien name), cultural and political notes, and relationship to Earth and the Galactic Federation of Worlds. Entries are organized alphabetically by constellation, using Earth scientific nomenclature, with Earth names in regular type and alien names in italics. Species names are transcribed phonetically.

Volume I includes, among many others: the Etherians of the Andromeda Galaxy (catalogued under the "Tall Whites" designation); the Maytre, a hermaphroditic empire spanning 77 worlds in Andromeda; the Tengri Tengri / Tengaa Tengaa of the TRAPPIST-1 system (an ancient amphibian spacefaring civilization); the Urmah and other residents of Canis Major; the Mineka (matriarchal spacefaring humans of the Bulikad system in Boötes whose Council of Nine elder priestesses connect to the plasmic interuniversal superconsciousnesses called The Nine); and the Anakh (Anunnaki) of Boötes traced from their arrival through the Boötes vortex approximately 700,000 years ago. The book also profiles the Galactic Guild of Merchants and inter-civilization commerce structures. Substantive descriptions of each species are treated in the dedicated subject articles (e.g. Etherians, Maytre, Mineka, Anunnaki).

Danaan states the book is intended as a reference for starseeds "to remember the culture they are originally from." The complete series is anticipated to cover approximately a thousand or more spacefaring species.

Method of compilation

Danaan describes the book's contents as derived from two sources. Portraits and cultural data were originally received as holographic transmissions from Thor Han Eredyon via the implanted communication device she has carried since childhood. Following an upgrade of the implant to "military grade" in 2022, she gained direct access to a Federation database called the "Excelsior" section, which catalogues all galactic civilizations; data bundles were downloaded directly and unpacked, with species coordinates cross-referenced against NASA star catalogues to establish Earth astronomical names. The original hand-drawn sketches from A Gift from the Stars (2020) were colorized using AI tools as a starting point, then refined through detailed manual adjustments in Photoshop to match the holographic information received. Danaan, a professional Egyptologist and engineer in epigraphy by training, draws a parallel between this work and her prior career reproducing ancient Egyptian artworks for archaeological record.

Publication

Volume I was published in 2024, self-published by Danaan, in both paperback and hardback editions. Danaan chose not to release a digital edition due to copyright concerns about plagiarism of the portraits. It is Danaan's fifth book, following A Gift from the Stars (2020), We Will Never Let You Down, The Seeders, and Area 51: Conversation with an Insider. The book was discussed on the Exopolitics Today podcast hosted by Michael Salla on March 7, 2024.

Reception

The blog Galactic Anthropology has used the Encyclopedia Galactica extensively as a reference source for analysis of species catalogued by Danaan. In its article on the Council of Five, the blog noted that Volume I revealed the Redan to be "a former Anakh colony" whose history traced to Enlil being raised on a planet in the Assamay star system. In its article on hermaphroditic species, the blog cited the Encyclopedia Galactica's entry on the Nommo of Sirius C. A second volume covering additional constellations was published in 2025.
