Udu

The Udu are a pacifist Gray hive collective native to the F-65 star system in the Cancer constellation, located 1,079.26 light years from Earth. They are members of the Galactic Federation of Worlds.

Biology

The Udu are carnivorous reptilian beings classified within the Gray race, averaging six feet tall with slim, elongated bodies and large eyeballs. They are oviparous, androgynous, and telepathic. A fungal layer protects their skin, which emits an odor considered unpleasant by most other species.

Society

Udu society operates on a hive-consciousness model. Young are raised in nurseries by workers genetically designed for the task, with genetic role assignments occurring at birth through chemicals produced by the hive's reproductive "mothers." These assignments emerge from the natural balance of the collective rather than any individual authority.

The Udu created the Y-Zan, a cyborg species originally engineered as a worker race for mining asteroids and small planetoids in the F-65 system. When the Y-Zan developed free will, the Udu offered them their own world, Ashorath, and freed them from service.

Military role

Hive collectives such as the Udu are valued in galactic conflicts because their fleets move with rapid coordination, comparable to a flock of birds guided by a shared mind.
