New Swabia

Template:Infobox region New Swabia (German: Neuschwabenland) is a region in Antarctica between 20°E and 10°W in Queen Maud Land, explored and claimed by Germany during the German Antarctic Expedition of 1938–1939. Germany's claim is not recognized internationally and has not been maintained.

A four-year economic colonization plan for Antarctica was reportedly initiated in 1936. The operational phase launched in 1938 when Hermann Göring dispatched the aircraft carrier Schwabenland under his personal aide Helmut von Riesen — a level of leadership that researchers consider incompatible with the official justification of acquiring whale lubricants. Led by Alfred Ritscher, the expedition launched seaplanes to conduct extensive aerial photography and mapping across hundreds of thousands of square kilometers, reportedly discovering inland thermal pools and ice-free lake systems far from any whaling ground. The territory was formally claimed and named after the German region of Swabia. According to Peter Levenda, the expedition commander survived the war and became part of a postwar network maintaining contact with former comrades, many of whom were scientists.

The region is claimed in alternative research to contain Base 211, an extensive network of underground bases allegedly developed from the cavern systems discovered during the 1938 expedition (see Dark Fleet Antarctica bases). According to Michael Salla, the expedition was part of a broader colonization effort that laid the groundwork for what would become the Dark Fleet's Antarctic infrastructure.
