Zeta Reticulian aliens — also widely called Zeta Greys or simply Reticulians, and less often Zeta Reticulans or Zeta Reticuli aliens — are, according to the alleged Majestic 12 scientist Michael Wolf Kruvante, the microbiologist Dan Burisch, the contactee Elena Danaan, and the Naval-intelligence source Milton William Cooper, the Grey-type non-human intelligent beings attributed to the Zeta Reticuli binary star system, reportedly native to its fourth planet, Reticulum 4. The name is used at more than one grain across the sources behind it: a broad, popular sense in which it stands for Grey-type beings generally, and a narrower sense — most fully worked out by Danaan, who gives the beings the endonym Shamtbahali — in which it names one specific people among several distinct Grey-type populations she places in or near the system, including the Do-Hu and a rogue faction of the Solipsi Rai. They appear throughout crash recovery materials and government MJ-12 treaty accounts, and are formally named in alleged treaty documentation as the counterparty to the Greada Treaty.

Their bearing on humanity is described as extensive and largely adversarial: an alleged decades-long abduction programme conducted under treaty cover, a hybridization programme aimed at human-Grey crossbreeding, and command of an occupying tier within a wider Nebu-led coalition that is said to have operated on and around Earth through the 20th and early 21st centuries.

Every stratum of the record disagrees about what the label actually denotes, and the disagreement is itself part of the record. Popular UFO-culture sources and the general treaty-lore surrounding Majestic 12 and William Cooper treat "Zeta Reticulan"/"Zeta Grey" as effectively a synonym for Grey-type beings as a whole — the reading a casual search of the term would turn up, and the broader, more common sense of the name. Danaan's far more granular taxonomy, by contrast, uses the same name for one narrowly specific people (Shamtbahali) distinguished by facial structure, uniform, and homeworld from a long roster of other Grey-type peoples she places at other stars entirely — Do-Hu and a rogue Solipsi Rai faction (both in or near Zeta Reticuli), and further species she assigns to Betelgeuse, Andromeda, Tau Ceti, and elsewhere. Burisch, working from a different informational compartment, identifies the beings he worked with not as an alien species at all but as time-displaced future human descendants — the J-Rod lineage — who migrated to the Zeta Reticuli system after a catastrophic event; he reports having been "initially briefed that J-Rod was an alien, specifically from the Reticulum star system, specifically Reticulum 4" before the time-traveler framing was disclosed to him, a discrepancy some have suggested reflects compartmented need-to-know briefings across different programs rather than a true contradiction. Notably, the researchers most responsible for popularizing the modern Grey image at all — Budd Hopkins, David Jacobs, and Whitley Strieber — never adopted "Zeta Reticulan" as their own term for the beings they documented, and in Jacobs's and Strieber's cases explicitly argued that fixing an origin star, or even a conventional extraterrestrial framing, was either unanswerable or beside the point.[citation needed] Bob Lazar's well-known reference to "Zeta Reticuli 3" is, on his own account, a claim about the documented origin of a recovered craft he examined at S-4, sourced to briefing paperwork he says he could not independently verify — not a personal description of the beings themselves. The filmmaker-compiler Craig Campobasso independently catalogues a "Zeta Reticulans" entry of his own — four-foot, hermaphroditic beings with "huge round irises" belonging to a "benevolent galactic alignment" — a portrait that stands in direct valence conflict with Danaan's hostile, totalitarian Shamtbahali, though both are said to bear the same name and hail from the same star.

The absence of a single settled identity runs deepest at the taxonomic edges. Cooper's own treaty-lore distinguishes a shorter worker/drone type from a taller command type among the treaty-signatory Greys — the "taller" grouping he places at the negotiating table in the alleged 1954 Eisenhower agreements — but it is genuinely unclear whether that in-system "taller" caste is the same population as the separately-catalogued Tall Greys umbrella (which Danaan traces to the Maytre, native to Andromeda rather than Zeta Reticuli) or a distinct command tier local to the Zeta Reticuli Greys themselves. Likewise unresolved is whether the "small Greys" ubiquitous across abduction testimony are, at bottom, this population specifically, or a broader morphological bucket spanning several unrelated peoples — Solipsi Rai, the Do-Hu, the Udu — that happen to share a height class, a taxonomy worked out more fully across the wider Grey alien classification.

Origins and provenance

According to Wolf, who reported having worked in classified biological-research labs alongside Grey extraterrestrials at S-4 from 1972 to 1977, the beings are a kind, fun-loving, and spiritually advanced species native to Reticulum Four, the fourth planet of the Zeta Reticuli binary star system. The beings are named in Wolf's account of alleged treaty documentation as the formal designation "Reticulians": "The Greys, originating on Reticulum Four, called the Reticulians, have agreed to treaty terms with the government of the United States of America." Elena Danaan, drawing on information she attributes to Thor Han Eredyon, likewise places the Zeta Reticuli Greys as an alien species rather than future humans, identifying them with the Do-Hu (from Janet Elderan in Zeta Reticuli M-2) and a rogue faction of the Solipsi Rai from Cygnus operating in Zeta Reticuli space — a reading her own separately-catalogued Shamtbahali entry sits awkwardly beside, since that entry names the Shamtbahali "as distinct from the related but separate Solipsi Rai."

According to Dan Burisch, who reportedly worked with a Reticulian being designated Chi'el'ah at S-4 under Project Aquarius, the J-Rod beings are not aliens in the conventional sense but future human descendants who migrated to Zeta Reticuli after a catastrophic event and underwent microevolutionary changes — decreased height, enlarged eyes, modified cranial structure — over tens of thousands of years. Two temporal sub-groups are distinguished within this framing: P-45 J-Rods (~45,000 years future) reportedly based in Zeta Reticuli, and P-52 J-Rods (~52,000 years future) reportedly based in the Gliese 876C system. The Wolf and Burisch claims have been suggested to be compatible rather than contradictory: Wolf, working within a different compartment, may not have been briefed on the time-traveler aspect of the beings' origin.

The first public association of any Grey-type beings with the Zeta Reticuli system reportedly emerged from the 1961 Hill abduction. Under hypnotic regression, Betty Hill reproduced a star map she said was shown to her aboard the craft; in 1969, schoolteacher Marjorie Fish constructed a three-dimensional model of nearby stars and identified the map as a match for the Zeta Reticuli system, establishing the association that subsequent contactee and whistleblower testimony would independently draw on. Betty Hill's own hypnotic-regression testimony described the beings' physical appearance — small, grey-skinned, large-headed, with wrap-around black eyes and small nasal slits — without naming a species; that step, and the Zeta Reticuli identification itself, was added afterward by Fish's star-map analysis and by later tellers reading her map, not by Hill herself.

Morphology and biology

Wolf describes the Reticulians as short Greys, typically 3.5 to 5 feet in height, with dolphin-like soft skin and four-lobed brains lacking a corpus callosum. Cooper's account distinguishes two functional subtypes within the treaty-signatory Greys: a shorter worker or drone type (approximately 3–4 feet), which carries out abductions and physical procedures, and a taller command type (5–6 feet), which communicates telepathically, directs the shorter Greys, and engages in governmental negotiations; the taller type, per Cooper, were the treaty signatories in the alleged 1954 Eisenhower agreements. A further distinction is drawn between the Zeta Reticuli Greys and the Emerther (attributed to Tau Ceti) and between "service to self" adversarial Greys and "service to others" benevolent types in Corey Goode's and Elena Danaan's taxonomies. They are reportedly distinct in stature and role from the Tall Greys, said by Elena Danaan to direct shorter Grey workers in abduction and military operations.

According to Dan Burisch, the morphology of the J-Rod variant — decreased height, enlarged eyes, and modified cranial structure relative to present-day humans — is the result of alleged microevolutionary changes accumulated over tens of thousands of years. According to Wolf, lead is acutely toxic to Reticulian physiology; a bullet wound is said to kill a Reticulian from lead poisoning before the wound itself proved fatal.

Psychology and communication

Wolf characterized the Reticulians he worked with as kind, fun-loving, and spiritually advanced. His primary Reticulian contact, Kolta (rendered KLT in the Reticulians' own notation), allegedly communicated via "thought throwing" — directed telepathic transmission experienced by the recipient as a clear voice inside the mind.

Society, command hierarchy, and taxonomy

Within the broader occupying coalition alleged to have operated on and around Earth, the Zeta Reticuli Greys occupied a subordinate operational tier. Per Danaan's A Gift from the Stars, reptilian command from Thuban directed the Maytrei (Tall Greys) and Mantis insectoids, who in turn commanded "the Do-Hu Zetai or the enslaved faction of Solipsi Rai and their related cloned and biosynthetic technicians" — the operational tier most often identified with the Zeta Reticuli Greys of testimony and treaty lore.

They are distinct from, though frequently conflated with, several related alleged Grey types:

• Tall Greys — a taller command-type alleged morphological category said by Elena Danaan to direct shorter Grey workers in abduction and military operations, including in the 1979 Dulce Base battle over the shorter Greys present at Dulce Base.
• Do-Hu — identified by Elena Danaan as one of two Zeta Reticuli Grey species, originally from Janet Elderan (M-2) in Zeta Reticuli, said to be enslaved under Nebu / Orion Grey Collective command.
• Solipsi Rai — identified by Elena Danaan as a species natively from Cygnus, with a rogue faction operating in Zeta Reticuli space, also under Nebu command; the same taxonomy elsewhere distinguishes the Solipsi Rai from the "Zeta Reticulians" specifically by facial structure — "more bony and emaciated" faces and larger eyes on the Zeta Reticulian side.
• Eben — a separate alleged Zeta Reticuli species named in Project Serpo documentation, explicitly said to share no reptiloid DNA with, and to be unrelated to, the Grey species of that system.
• Shamtbahali — Danaan's own-name designation for a specific hive-culture people she places at the "Xrog twin-planets" of the system, sometimes glossed as the strict referent of "Zeta Reticulans"/"Reticulans"/"Zeta Greys" in her later work.

Elena Danaan's own 1987 childhood abduction is reported to have been conducted by Zeta-Reticuli-type Greys.

Technology and the 1975 S-4 incident

Both Wolf and Burisch reportedly describe Reticulian beings housed at the S-4 facility near Area 51. According to Wolf, in 1975 Reticulian entities were allegedly demonstrating a 100-percent-power-producing antimatter annihilation reaction in a small reactor, using a super-heavy element bombarded with protons, when a security guard refused an order to disarm. Wolf reports that the guard shot one of the Reticulian beings; the surviving Reticulians are alleged to have killed 43 humans via directed mental energy — all fatalities reportedly died of head wounds with no visible alien weapon, said to be consistent with Reticulian neural capacity being usable as a defensive weapon.

Agenda and relationship to humanity

Treaty relations

The Zeta Reticuli Greys are reportedly the formal counterparties to the alleged Greada Treaty with the United States government. According to Wolf, the treaty language reads: "The Greys, originating on Reticulum Four, called the Reticulians, have agreed to treaty terms with the government of the United States of America." The treaty framework allegedly permitted limited abductions in exchange for exotic technology transfers, but the stipulated numbers were reportedly rapidly exceeded. An "Above Top Secret" United Nations ruling is also said to have prohibited any Reticulian from walking openly in public. According to Burisch, the P-45 J-Rods conducted human abductions under Majestic 12 treaty arrangements and were the primary Greada Treaty counterparties.

Abduction and hybridization programmes

The Zeta Reticuli Greys' most extensively documented interaction with the human population is an alleged abduction programme: the systematic seizure of humans for biological and reproductive procedures, said to be conducted under the abduction rights granted through treaty with the US and USSR governments. Per Danaan, a typical abduction involves a tall Grey serving as a supervising biological entity, with smaller synthetic workers or clones performing the physical procedures; the tall Grey maintains telepathic control over the abductee and coordinates the synthetic workers, who in Danaan's own account were "shot at" before the supervising biological entity was "strangled to death" during a Galactic Federation of Worlds intervention.

The Nebu coalition's alleged long-term strategy on Earth included a hybridisation programme: the introduction of Grey genetic material into human reproductive lines, producing hybrid offspring said to be intended to allow assimilation of the human population into the Grey collective. The programme was contingent on the claim — rejected by Danaan as "super BS" — that the "Greys of the future" are actually evolved humans, requiring hybridisation to create genetic compatibility. The programme was ultimately abandoned following the destruction of the Nebu super-queen in the Orion Nebula in 2022, which severed the collective's central coordination, leaving surviving Grey populations reverting to their individual planetary matrices.

Crash recovery accounts

Zeta Reticuli Greys appear in crash recovery accounts at Roswell (1947), Kingman, Arizona (1953), and numerous other reported incidents. Bill Uhouse spent over 30 years at S-4 in the Area 51 complex building a flying disc flight simulator modeled on the Kingman craft, describing it as a controlled landing in which the occupants "wanted to present [the craft] to our government."

Per Wolf, government scientists discovered that Reticulians could not dematerialize and escape if surrounded by a sufficiently powerful electromagnetic field — leading to the construction of containment facilities with walls "three feet thick, with many wires embedded and running through them." Wolf described the Reticulians' dietary requirements as entirely different from humans: they "absorb energy from the air and certain particulates" and "don't absorb enough water to need to void." Independently of the whistleblower testimony, a body of alleged handheld and leaked footage — most prominently the Skinny Bob footage — depicts an entity of consistent morphology internally labelled as originating from the Zeta Reticuli system.
