Early life and background
Carson was born in 1971 at Queens General Hospital in Queens, New York. His family relocated to Miami, Florida — specifically to the Opa-locka neighborhood, a high-crime district he described as the "cocaine cowboy capital" — when he was young. Growing up in the late 1970s, Carson had limited freedom of movement and spent much of his childhood observing the sky from his yard.
At age seven in 1977, Carson witnessed what he describes as his first UFO sighting — a silent egg-shaped object that crossed the horizon in seconds, stopped directly above him at approximately 200 metres altitude, then departed. While watching television, the room turned lavender, the TV switched off, and two entities he described as Greys appeared directly in front of him. No other person in the house — including his wife, two daughters, and three sons — witnessed or heard anything.
Immediately following the encounter, Carson found the phrase "Worldwide Telescope" repeating in his mind.
