Eric Hecker is a former US Navy submariner and Raytheon Technologies contractor who served as a plumber and firefighter at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in Antarctica during the 2010–2011 season, spending 366 continuous days at the facility. He is a self-described whistleblower who in 2023 made public a series of allegations about classified activities at the station — including an alleged directed energy weapon function of the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, a purportedly still-active ELF antenna, a concealed power source, missile-site scouting, and a cluster of Havana syndrome-like symptoms among crew — and has subsequently sought to bring his testimony before the United States Congress.
Biography
Early life and pre-Antarctic career
Hecker's background, as described in his own 2023 account, includes service as a US Navy submariner, prior training in the Stargate Project remote-viewing program, and work as a tradesman plumber serving wealthy clients on Long Island before he took up the Raytheon contract. He has additionally alleged that as a child he was subjected to experimentation connected to the same clandestine programs that later recruited him into the remote-viewing effort.
Arrival and access at the South Pole
Hecker arrived for the 2010–2011 austral summer season as a plumber for Raytheon Polar Services, the prime support contractor at Amundsen-Scott, reportedly performing well enough to secure a follow-on winter-over contract that extended his stay to a full year on the Antarctic Plateau. His assignment as lead on the fire-response team required him to be read into the operational layout of the station for crew-safety purposes, purportedly resulting in his holding a physical master key to every compartment in the complex. He has alleged that this access was a rare position among Raytheon contractors and provided the basis for his subsequent observations of non-public systems embedded within the ostensibly scientific base.
IceCube and directed-energy observations
During his tenure Hecker allegedly became convinced that the IceCube Neutrino Observatory — a cubic-kilometre array of optical sensors embedded in the ice beneath the station — was not merely a passive scientific detector but also functioned as a directed energy weapon with transmit capability. He reportedly came to believe the array additionally served as an air traffic control system for craft using exotic propulsion systems and as a quantum entanglement-based faster-than-light communications relay, with an alleged accidental misfiring from the system said to have caused the February 2011 Christchurch earthquake shortly after his observations.
ELF antenna discovered active
According to Hecker, station personnel were officially told that an extremely low frequency antenna buried in the ice was decommissioned and inert. While performing routine electrical checks he purportedly noticed a breaker listed as the ELF system in the on position despite the official decommissioning notice, which he has cited as evidence of concealed operational infrastructure.
Concealed power supply
Hecker has alleged that the station's documented diesel-generator capacity could not account for the load demands he observed during his tenure, and that the facility therefore ran on either a retained nuclear power plant grandfathered in from before the Antarctic Treaty or on an undisclosed "exotic" power system not covered by treaty verbiage.
Missile-site scouting
Hecker has reported that a Raytheon Polar Services team discussed scouting missile-site locations in the Antarctic interior, which he characterizes as a violation of the demilitarization provisions of the Antarctic Treaty.
Medical incidents and Havana-syndrome symptoms
During the winter-over period, Hecker has alleged that crew members — himself included — experienced a cluster of neurological and somatic symptoms consistent with Havana syndrome, including cognitive disturbance, persistent headaches and unexplained illness. He has linked the symptom cluster to the purportedly active ELF and directed-energy systems, arguing that multiple South Pole rotations have been affected.
Intimidation and cover-up
Hecker has described an atmosphere of intimidation in which personnel who questioned anomalous observations at the station were reportedly warned off, subjected to surveillance, or threatened — a climate he contends amounts to an institutional cover-up of classified activities embedded within the scientific mission. He has alleged that these pressures extended beyond his on-ice tenure and shaped his later decision to disclose publicly only after extended consideration.
Post-Antarctic life and public disclosure
After completing his 366 continuous days at the pole, Hecker returned to the continental United States and continued to work in the skilled trades while reportedly reflecting on what he had seen; he has subsequently alleged that, in the years following his departure, he was contacted in ways he interpreted as recall or monitoring by parties associated with his former contract. In 2023, within the broader wave of UAP disclosure activity that included the David Grusch whistleblower complaint and the July 2023 House Oversight Committee UAP hearings, he brought his account to public audiences on the Shawn Ryan Show (SRS), episode #66, Part 3, on 21 July 2023. The Spotify release of the same interview has been widely circulated. Hecker participated in what host Shawn Ryan described as a "UFO Whistleblower Marathon" conference in which, per Ryan's introduction, "all of these gentlemen have testified in front of Congress under oath." His allegations were further circulated within the exopolitics community, where commentators noted intersections with narratives about Solar Warden and the Interplanetary Corporate Conglomerate posited by Michael Salla. Hecker also appeared through the Disclosure Project organised by Steven Greer, who has independently described the IceCube-adjacent system as a deployment of a seized "neutrino light detector" technology originally developed by an inventor named Bob Beckwith and taken by the National Reconnaissance Office under national-security order, and has characterized the deployed system as both a passive detector and an active weapon capable of striking craft with powerful electromagnetic pulses. Comedian and podcaster Kurt Metzger, describing Hecker as a personal friend, discussed his allegations on The Joe Rogan Experience, with Rogan summarising the claim as "a neutrino detector that's also a directed energy weapon."
