Don Elkins
Don Elkins (1930–1984) was an American engineer, airline pilot, and paranormal researcher who co-founded L-L Research and served as the primary questioner in the Law of One channeling sessions conducted from 1981 to 1983. A physicist with an aeronautical engineering background, Elkins spent more than two decades investigating UFO phenomena, psychic abilities, and channeling before the Law of One contact began. His questions during the sessions, addressed to the entity Ra, shaped the body of material that would become one of the most influential texts in the New Age, exopolitics, and consciousness research communities.
Career and research
Elkins held a doctorate in mechanical engineering and flew for Eastern Air Lines while simultaneously conducting decades of research into UFO contactees, psychic phenomena, and extraterrestrial contact. He began organizing informal research groups in the 1950s, working to replicate and understand contact experiences. His long-term partner and research collaborator was Carla Rueckert, who became the trance channel for the Ra contact. David Wilcock described Elkins as "a very well-read ufologist and a PhD physics professor who's been studying this stuff since the early 1950s" at the time the Ra sessions began in 1981, giving him approximately three decades of UFO research background before the contact was initiated.
L/L Research and the Law of One
Together with Rueckert and Jim McCarty, Elkins co-founded L-L Research (L/L standing for "Love/Light") in Louisville, Kentucky. Between January 1981 and March 1983, the group conducted approximately 106 channeling sessions in which Rueckert, in deep trance, relayed communications from a sixth-density social memory complex calling itself Ra. Elkins formulated all questions put to Ra; the resulting transcripts were published as the five-volume The Law of One series. The material covers densities of consciousness, the nature of the Creator, service to others, service to self, the Harvest, and the Orion Group as a negatively oriented galactic force.
The Ra material endorsed the physics of Dewey B. Larson, whose reciprocal systems theory Elkins had studied; this cross-validation of scientific and channeled frameworks is frequently cited by researchers who treat the Law of One as both a spiritual and scientific source.
Session 8 and the deleted material
One complete session — Session 8, recorded on January 26, 1981 — was initially deleted from the published Law of One volumes because its content about U.S. government awareness of extraterrestrial secret space program activities was so far outside what Elkins considered possible that he could not tolerate integrating it into the body of work. The session was not publicly available until it appeared in Book Five in 1998. According to David Wilcock, "It was so far out... What The Law of One told him about our government and the technology they have and the extent of it totally blew his mind. He couldn't tolerate that this was real." The session was described in the secret space program community as one of the earliest documented references to the classified technology programs that later whistleblowers would independently describe, and was said to be required reading in certain SSP circles.
Legacy and influence
The Ra/Law of One material has been cited by Corey Goode as required reading within certain secret space program factions; Goode described it as "one of the most authoritative and accurate telepathic communications about extraterrestrial life, human history and the evolution of consciousness ever received." David Wilcock built much of his public exopolitical framework on the Law of One, treating its cosmological model of densities, harvest, and galactic civilizations as empirically supported by his own research into scientific anomalies. The Sphere Being Alliance contact described by Goode beginning in 2011 — with the entity Raw-Tear-Eir of the Blue Avians — was proposed by Wilcock to be linked to the same Ra group that communicated through Rueckert during Elkins's sessions. The channeled material produced under Elkins's questioning has also been independently cited as reflecting genuine spiritual transmission by researchers including those working with the Q'uo contact and Seth material, as part of a broader pattern of convergent channeled accounts about the nature of post-physical existence.
Death
Elkins died by suicide on November 7, 1984, reportedly following mental and physical deterioration attributed by some associates to psychic attacks by negatively oriented entities attracted to the Ra contact. The sessions had already concluded the year prior. L-L Research continued under the direction of Rueckert and McCarty, who have published and maintained the Law of One material through the present day.
