We Are the Nibiruans: Return of the 12th Planet is a 1996 book by Jelaila Starr presenting a claimed lineage from the Anunnaki of Nibiru, transmitted, according to Starr, through her contact with a channeled entity she calls Devin, described as head of a "9th-dimensional" body she terms the Nibiruan Council. The book covers, in Starr's account, a secret history of Earth, the extraterrestrial origin of the human species, a claimed purpose for so-called "junk" DNA, and the activities of a group Starr calls the Ancient Ones. It has been described in secondary coverage as part biography, part science fiction, and part self-help, reflecting a book that mixes Starr's own channeling origin story with instructions for readers to follow.

Starr's cosmology departs sharply from Zecharia Sitchin's Sumerian-translation account of Nibiru and the Anunnaki: where Sitchin presents Nibiru as an undiscovered natural planet on a long elliptical orbit, Starr and the Nibiruan Council present it as a planet substantially converted into an artificial vessel — in the Council's own words, one on which "only the shell is original" — that came to rest in the vicinity of the Pleiades and is on that basis called by some a Pleiadian planet. Per the Council's teaching, this Pleiadian connection is framed as intentional: a Pleiadian group is said to have taken on the Nibiru mission in order to gain direct experience of negativity and duality as part of what the Council calls a "Grand Experiment" of polarity integration, becoming, through that mission, the people later known as the Nibiruans.[citation needed] Sitchin's own corpus, by contrast, makes no channeling claim and no Pleiadian-parent-race framing at all, so the two accounts of Nibiru and the Anunnaki — one presented as a translation of ancient cuneiform, the other as a modern channeled transmission — share a name and little else.

Genesis and channeling

Starr describes a spiritual awakening in 1992 and reports that she began receiving communications from Devin around April–May 1993, several years before she left her prior career to work full-time on the material. She completed what she describes as training as a "galactic messenger" in January 1997 and founded the Nibiruan Council that same month, naming the organization after Nibiru itself. We Are the Nibiruans was published in 1996, before the Council's formal founding, and Starr has continued to publish further channeled material through the Council in the years since.

Contents: 12-strand DNA recoding

Central to the book is a program Starr calls DNA recoding, premised on the claim that the human body carries twelve strands of DNA of which ten are dormant ("junk" DNA) and two are active, and that a set of energetic exercises — clearing emotional blockages, activating the thymus gland, and a sequence Starr describes as crown-chakra, MerKaBa-antenna, and hypothalamus activation — can realign and reconnect the dormant strands. Starr presents the recoding program as leading, if enough people complete it, to a collective rise in the planet's consciousness frequency and a shift into a higher fourth-dimensional state.

Publication history

The book has circulated under at least two ISBNs across different printings (9780965665704 and 9781893183186), the later of which places it alongside Starr's later titles in wider retail distribution. We Are the Nibiruans remains Starr's founding text; the Nibiruan Council she subsequently established continues to sell and expand on it through further books, recorded channelings, and the DNA recoding program described above.

Reception

The book and the Nibiruan Council's wider cosmology have drawn attention from researchers cataloguing contactee and channeled species literature, including entries on comparative sites tracking Nibiruan claims alongside other channeled extraterrestrial traditions. No source located in this pass directly compares Starr's account against Zecharia Sitchin's in print, though the two are frequently invoked together in popular discussion of Nibiru and the Anunnaki, sharing a name and an ancient-astronaut framing while resting on entirely different claimed evidentiary bases — philological translation for Sitchin, channeled transmission for Starr.[citation needed]
