Psychotronics
Psychotronics is the study and application of devices claimed to interact directly with human consciousness—amplifying, suppressing, projecting, or reading mental states through electromagnetic, acoustic, or field-based means. The term originates in Soviet military research of the 1960s–1980s but has been adopted broadly in SSP testimony, targeted individual literature, and ET disclosure research to describe any technology operating at the interface of physics and mind.
Soviet origins
The Soviet psychotronics program, conducted under the auspices of the KGB and military research institutes including the Institute for Problems of Information Transmission, investigated the biological effects of microwave radiation, extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic fields, and ultrasound on human subjects. Researchers including Nikolai Khokhlov and Igor Smirnov worked on acoustic mind-control devices and electromagnetic harassment systems. Western intelligence agencies including the CIA monitored this work closely through programs including MK-Ultra and its successor programs, which ran parallel domestic research.
Former Pentagon UAP program director Lue Elizondo confirmed in a 2024 interview that CIA documentation on this subject is partially declassified, directing listeners to search for "Russian psychotronic weapons development program" in publicly available CIA records: "Look it up. It's KGB and Soviet... that's from the CIA, not me." Elizondo's reference to the "Zombie Ray Gun program" as another documented example underscores that the CIA's own archives now partially corroborate the existence of state-sponsored remote mental influence research.
Psychotronic weapons
Psychotronic weapons are devices designed to affect the mental or physical state of a target at a distance without the target's knowledge. Alleged categories include:
- Microwave hearing devices: weapons exploiting the Frey effect (microwave auditory effect) to transmit sounds directly into a target's skull without air-conducted sound waves, bypassing normal hearing
- ELF modulators: devices using extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields to entrain brainwave states, inducing confusion, sleep, compliance, or panic in exposed populations
- Directed energy harassment systems: devices alleged to be used against targeted individuals, producing sensations of heat, pain, or intrusive thoughts in the target
Havana Syndrome — the cluster of neurological symptoms reported by US diplomatic and intelligence personnel at facilities in Cuba, China, and elsewhere beginning in 2016 — has been attributed by some researchers and a 2023 National Academies report to directed pulsed radio frequency energy, consistent with theoretical psychotronic weapon effects. The US government has not publicly attributed Havana Syndrome to a hostile psychotronic weapons program, but the incidents demonstrated that directed-energy effects on human cognition are not merely theoretical.
Plasma-based psychotronic systems
Research into plasma as a medium for consciousness interaction emerged from the intersection of classified physics research and UAP propulsion studies. Researcher Jason Jorjani has noted that sufficiently dense plasma can self-organize, and that plasma-based configurations are routinely observed by intelligence and military personnel in UAP contexts: "Plasma can be used as a non-fission trigger in thermonuclear weapons and it can self-organize if the plasma is dense enough. So you can make a plasma orb just using normal physics." Jorjani's observation that CIA and NGA personnel are repeatedly encountering plasma orbs in UAP contexts — despite lacking the nuclear engineering background to recognize them as a known physical phenomenon — suggests a potential convergence between classified plasma weapons research and UAP phenomenology.
Psychic amplification devices
Within SSP testimony, the most prominent amplification device is the Montauk Chair, described as a psychotronic device specifically engineered to boost the natural psychic output of a seated operator to the level required for manifestation of physical objects and temporal navigation. The chair is alleged to have been developed at the Montauk Project at Camp Hero, incorporating technology derived from both human electromagnetic research and recovered ET components. Andy Pero, a claimed Montauk subject, described using the chair to open time portals through focused mental concentration, with the chair amplifying his native telekinetic and visualization abilities to the level required for physical effect.
Remote influencing
Remote influencing technology, as described by SSP witnesses, projects a modulated electromagnetic carrier signal capable of entraining the emotional state of a target population. Michael Salla and other researchers note that such technologies, if operational at scale, would constitute a form of covert mass mind control distinct from propaganda, bypassing the target's conscious processing entirely. The HAARP array in Alaska has been alleged by some researchers—including Nick Begich—to function in part as a large-scale ELF remote-influencing system, an allegation that its operators dispute.
MK-Ultra electromagnetic variants
The documented MK-Ultra program (1953–1973) included subprojects investigating electromagnetic mind control alongside its better-known chemical and psychological components. Declassified documents reference experiments with sensory deprivation, sleep learning, and the effects of pulsed radio frequency on cognitive performance. Researchers including John Lilly worked on direct electromagnetic communication with the nervous system via implanted electrodes during this period, later theorizing that external field sources might achieve similar results without implantation.
Relationship to targeted individuals
Witnesses identifying as targeted individuals describe experiencing symptoms consistent with remote psychotronic harassment: intrusive voices, induced emotional states, involuntary body movements, and sleep disruption. They typically attribute these effects to ground-based transmitters, satellite-mounted directed alleged energy weapons, or neural implants installed without consent during MILAB encounters. The Freedom of Information Act requests that produced the partial MK-Ultra document release in 1977 have been cited as evidence that government research in this area was real, even if the full scope remains classified.
ET technology connection
Several SSP witnesses and researchers argue that the most advanced psychotronic technologies are not human-developed but reverse-engineered from recovered non-human craft. Dan Winter, a biophysicist working in the consciousness research community, described Preston Nichols and the Montauk Project books as documenting genuine recovered-technology applications within a psychotronic context. The Montauk Chair specifically is alleged to incorporate ET-derived components that made possible a consciousness amplification efficiency unachievable through purely human electromagnetic engineering.
Voice-to-Skull technology
Voice-to-Skull (V2K) technology applies the Frey effect (microwave auditory effect) — the perception of sound caused by pulsed microwave absorption in cochlear and cranial tissue — to transmit audio directly into a target's skull without air-conducted sound. A 1994 US Army document, Bioeffects of Selected Nonlethal Weapons, addressed the theoretical and practical basis for microwave-induced sound perception. Arkheim Ra describes active physical and electronic monitoring in civilian life following his departure from the programs, consistent with the electronic harassment symptom cluster reported by targeted individuals: coordinated vehicle surveillance, monitoring by personnel with Air Force connections, and an attributed motive — program awareness that former operatives' psychic abilities may be reactivating.
