Project Galileo (Lazar)

Project Galileo was the codename, as described by Bob Lazar, for the alien-propulsion reverse-engineering program at the S-4 facility near Papoose Lake, Nevada, to which Lazar was assigned as a Senior Staff Physicist between approximately December 1988 and April 1989. Lazar first disclosed the name in silhouetted interviews with investigative journalist George Knapp on KLAS-TV Las Vegas in May 1989 (under the pseudonym "Dennis"), and was publicly identified on November 10, 1989. According to Lazar, the mission of Project Galileo was to reverse-engineer the propulsion systems of nine disc-shaped extraterrestrial craft allegedly stored in S-4's hangar bays; Lazar's specific assignment concerned an 18-inch antimatter reactor and three "gravity amplifiers" utilizing Element 115 (moscovium) to distort spacetime by pulling the destination toward the craft rather than propelling the craft through space. Lazar identified two operational modes: "omicron configuration" (single amplifier, hover/low-altitude) and "delta configuration" (all three amplifiers, atmospheric exit and interstellar travel). Three companion programs named in Lazar's briefing documents were Project Sidekick (gravity-wave weaponization), Project Looking Glass (temporal viewing), and Project Aquarius (overarching umbrella).

In a 2019 Joe Rogan Experience appearance with filmmaker Jeremy Corbell, Lazar described the companion programs alongside Galileo: "Project Galileo, Project Sidekick was supposed to be weapons applications of the craft. Project Looking Glass had to do with time, any effects of time on the craft — small distortions, intentional distortions of time and how that can be used as well; it was part of a weapons program." Lazar was careful to note he had only seen small briefings on these companion programs and preferred not to elaborate beyond what he could personally verify.

Dan Burisch, in Project Camelot interviews from 2003, placed Project Galileo as one of five compartmentalized S-4 departments united by "gravity and the control of it, and therefore the control of Space/Time," though Burisch's own department was Project Aquarius (xenobiological research on Chi'el'ah). Lazar has categorically denied any knowledge of Burisch.
