Xerum-525
Xerum-525 — also documented as Serum 525 or IRR Xerum-525 — was a purportedly highly radioactive, mercury-based substance allegedly used inside Die Glocke (the Bell), an alleged secret Nazi experimental device reportedly tested in Lower Silesia during the final years of World War II. The substance was first reported by Polish researcher Igor Witkowski on the basis of his claimed access to Polish intelligence documents including interrogation records of SS General Jakob Sporrenberg.
Physical description
Xerum-525 was described as a metallic liquid with a violet-gold hue that maintained, at room temperature, the consistency of "slightly coagulated jelly". It was stored before each experiment in an oblong ceramic container — described as a "vacuum flask" — surrounded by a layer of approximately 3 centimetres of lead, making the container roughly 1 to 1.5 metres in length. The need for lead-lined storage indicated strong radioactive emission.
Role in Die Glocke
The Bell's inner axis — a heavy metal core — held the Xerum-525 flask. Two massive counter-rotating cylinders surrounding this axis were filled with or coated in pure mercury, cooled with liquid nitrogen and oxygen before each run. When the device was activated, the counter-rotation of the substance generated strong radiation, a bluish phosphorescence around the Bell's exterior, and surges in nearby electrical installations at distances exceeding 100 metres.
The Bell's operation produced catastrophic effects on organic material: plants decomposed rapidly into a greasy, odourless sludge; blood and other liquids stratified into distinct fractions; crystalline structures formed within liquid organic substances. The Bell's field extended approximately 150–200 metres from the device. The first series of experiments, conducted in May–June 1944, killed five of the seven scientists and technicians operating the device; the surviving researchers suffered long-term effects including sleep disturbances, balance and memory problems, muscle cramps, and ulceration. According to the earlier account in Farrell's Reich of the Black Sun, the first test was so powerful that all the technicians present were killed outright.
Test site and classification
The Bell and its Xerum-525 experiments were conducted primarily at the Wenceslas Mine at Ludwigsdorf (modern Ludwikowice Kłodzkie) in Lower Silesia, where the SS constructed a large concrete henge structure that served as its test stand; isotopic analysis of the henge's steel reinforcements after the war indicated heavy neutron bombardment. The project carried the classification Kriegsentscheidend — "decisive for the war" — a designation that, according to Witkowski, appears in no other document among the cubic metres of German wartime records he examined, and which rated the Bell above the atom bomb in strategic priority.
In the final weeks of the war, the Bell and its documentation were evacuated, allegedly aboard a Junkers Ju 390 from Prague via Norway; the approximately 60 scientists and technicians associated with the project were executed by the SS to prevent the secrets of the device — and of Xerum-525 — from reaching either Soviet or Allied forces.
Composition and identification
Witkowski concluded that Xerum-525 was a radioactive isotope of mercury in compound with other elements, possibly thorium oxide and beryllium oxide (beryllia). Farrell expanded this analysis, arguing that the substance was a mercury-based compound that had been "salted" — neutron-bombarded inside a nuclear reactor core — to produce an abnormally high-density material, a process analogous to the alleged Cold War substance known as red mercury. Farrell further speculated that Xerum-525 may have incorporated nuclear isomers — particularly hafnium or tantalum isomers — and that the counter-rotation and high-voltage pulsing subjected the substance to mechanical and electromagnetic stresses sufficient to trigger isomeric energy release. Farrell also connected the substance's description to an ancient Sanskrit text describing a mercury-based propulsion medium whose properties — quasi-crystalline elements suspended in mercury fluid — resemble the accounts of Xerum-525.
Plasma fusion interpretation
Researcher Jason Jorjani, drawing on Joseph P. Farrell's Reich of the Black Sun and the work of Carter Plympton Hydrick, identifies Xerum-525 as "a serum of mercury and thorium isotope" subjected first to extreme electromagnetic torsion by powerful magnets and then to magnetic compression — a sequence intended to drive the mercury-thorium plasma into fusion. Jorjani connects the mercury-fusion interpretation of the Bell to what he regards as a pattern of Nazi clean fusion research running from Kammler's group through Ronald Richter's post-war Argentine program, arguing that the same consortium — Bormann, Kammler, and their U.S. intelligence contacts — that had access to the Bell's technology also facilitated Richter's continued research, achieving dirty neutron fusion by 1952 and surpassing atomic weapons in destructive potential.
Farrell, in a 2015 Forum Borealis interview, described the Bell's working substance as a cherry- or maroon-coloured liquid spun in counter-rotating cylinders at extreme velocity and then pulsed with very high voltage electricity — sufficient to convert it into a plasma with all molecular rotational planes aligned, generating synchrotron radiation so intense that the test chamber had to be lined with bricks, covered with rubber mats burned after each test, and scrubbed with brine. Farrell described this plasma configuration as the likely "real kernel of truth" behind the levitation that witnesses — concentration camp inmates from the nearby Gross-Rosen camp — reported as barrel-like glowing objects hovering above the tree line.
Vortex physics interpretation
Consciousness scientist Dan Winter, working from phase-conjugation physics, proposes that the mercury-vortex principle at the core of the Bell — and by extension the Xerum-525 working fluid — is consistent with a general mechanism for generating longitudinal gravity waves through implosive vortex compression. Winter describes the doping of mercury with iron powder (or similar materials) as a method for enabling "the flux, the magnetic flux density in the mercury to operate parallel to the hydraulic inertia" of the spinning medium, with the combination of mechanical inertia and magnetic phase conjugation producing a directional longitudinal wave at the vortex tip. On this analysis, Xerum-525's lead shielding was required not merely for radiation containment but because an enriched, dense mercury isotope compound maximises the gravitational compression effect at the vortex tip — "if you were doing it with an iron powder doped mercury called the ore in a Nazi bell, you get a whole lot more gravity."
