Suppressed scientific models

Suppressed scientific models are scientific frameworks that have experimental or observational support but remain outside mainstream academic acceptance — allegedly due to institutional bias rather than lack of evidence. They span fields including electrodynamics, nuclear physics, biology, and cosmology.

Epistemic status

Suppressed scientific models are distinguished by their advocates from both pseudoscience and mere conspiracy theory: they are advanced by researchers with relevant credentials, make claims that are in principle testable, and produce verifiable artifacts or replications, yet are excluded from peer-reviewed venues by institutional dynamics rather than by any failure of method. The boundary with pseudoscience is contested — proponents hold that institutional framing determines the label, critics that the methods themselves fall short — and a Kuhnian reading casts the dispute as one of paradigm rather than correctness, the marginalized models awaiting the institutional shift that permits their re-evaluation. Beyond the physics frameworks below, the same pattern covers remote viewing (published by Hal Puthoff and Russell Targ in the Proceedings of the IEEE in 1976), the ValléeNolan laboratory analysis of recovered UAP materials, and the broader class of falsely discredited theories.

Extended electrodynamics

A group of government and private-sector physicists has been developing what they call Extended Electrodynamics (EED), building on aspects of Maxwell's original equations that were removed from the standard formulation. Lou Dechiaro of the Naval Surface Warfare Center described the "coupled Maxwell-Heaviside equations" which, according to Russian physicists, "may establish a link between electrodynamics, spin fields and gravity." Hal Puthoff described a domain of physics where vector and scalar potentials exist without electromagnetic fields, detectable through their effects on quantum wave function phases, with a defense contractor investing millions in quantum detectors for these phenomena.

Larry Forsley of NASA Glenn Research Center noted that key pieces of electromagnetic theory "had been noticed as early as the 1920s, but they came to the fore in the mid fifties and then proven in the 1970s."

Vacuum energy and zero-point fluctuations

Puthoff has pursued zero-point energy as both a theoretical framework and practical energy source. He described how "what we call empty space is not really empty. It's full of quantum fluctuations" and that vacuum energy, "which can be very high if you cohere it," may account for otherwise inexplicable physical phenomena.

Low-energy nuclear reactions

Low-energy nuclear reactions (LENR), formerly termed cold fusion, is pursued by researchers including Dechiaro at the Naval Surface Warfare Center and Forsley at NASA Glenn Research Center. Despite being labeled pseudoscience after the 1989 Pons-Fleischmann experiment controversy, LENR research continues within the U.S. government. The intense institutional hostility to the field was described by Tom Valone as "an historic type of prejudice that was precipitated by the American Physical Society."

Electrogravitics

Electrogravitics was openly researched by major American aerospace companies in the 1950s, including Glenn L. Martin Company, Bell Aircraft, Lear Inc., Sperry-Rand, and General Electric. Experiments by Townsend Brown produced "results so impressive as to be highly classified." Tom Valone described the operational reality of electrogravitics through the testimony of Brad Sorenson, who witnessed alien reproduction vehicles "actually levitating in the closed environment, an air force base."

Bioelectromagnetics

Tom Valone documented the empirical basis for bioelectromagnetics, noting that the cell membrane functions as one of "the best insulators in the world," capable of storing "10 million V/m as an electrical gradient." The pioneering work of Robert O. Becker, Andrew Bassett, and Arthur Pilla in bone-healing frequencies demonstrated measurable electrotherapeutic effects that were patented and even processed through an FDA approval office.
