The Link bracelet or Link artifact is a bracelet-like metallic device that Jonathan Reed claimed to have recovered from the ground at the site of the Jonathan Reed forest incident on 15 October 1996, near Snoqualmie Pass, Washington. Reed described it as an advanced piece of alien technology — a bio-electric interface between its wearer and a non-human command structure — capable of inducing teleportation and altered states of consciousness when activated. It was found approximately three feet from the incapacitated being Freddie, near the obelisk. Its analysis forms the basis of the book LINK: An Extraterrestrial Odyssey (2000), co-authored with Robert Raith.

Reed has described the bracelet as one of several such devices kept by custodians around the world for more than 60 years, rather than a unique object. No independent scientific examination of it has been documented; Reed has said it was "safely stored out of my hands and out of the country" by a group he called "the Alliance." By his account the device functions only when its unseen "owners" permit, so that its frequent failures to activate cannot be independently tested, and a televised demonstration in which he appeared to vanish and reappear was, in a later review, judged the "last straw" for many of his followers and characterised as edited.

Discovery

Reed described first noticing the artifact about three feet from the being's body, partially hidden under ferns. He recalled picking it up thinking it resembled "a pop can, silver in color, about the same size." The object's surface carried four symbols, one of which resembled the shape of the obelisk and similar forms found in Mexico, Egypt, and China.

Physical dimensions

Independent investigator Daniel McEvoy documented the artifact's dimensions at a conference presentation, describing it as four inches long by three and a half inches wide and three-sixteenths of an inch thick, weighing 170.30 grams. This physical measurement conflicts with an earlier reported weight of 7.3 grams cited from the Osaka analysis.

Composition and Osaka analysis

The Epilogue of LINK: An Extraterrestrial Odyssey provides the most detailed published technical description of the bracelet, characterising it as a composite cuff "made of a composite material mostly composed of a radical mixture of silicon-polymer / beryllium-aluminum, manganese, copper, zinc, bismuth, gold and some unknown elements currently unrecognizable by mans standards" — measuring 4 inches by 3½ inches and 170.30 grams. Reed stated the artifact was transported to the University of Osaka, Japan for analysis in 1999, arranged through people he called "the Alliance." The Japanese analysis found it weighed 7.3 grams (3.75 oz) and was composed of a "radical mixture" of silicon polymers, beryllium, aluminium, manganese, magnesium, zinc, copper, bismuth, gold, and "other undetermined materials." Its interior consisted of "layer after layer of micron-type layers three to four microns in depth, like plant material, like the fibers in a plant leaf" — leading analysts to characterise it as "a biological, living biology machine." By the time of the book's publication in 2000, Reed stated, the artifact had been "scientifically examined, documented and safely stored out of my hands and out of the country by the Alliance."

Daniel McEvoy additionally stated that a scientist and engineer affiliated with the Ames Institute of NASA — introduced to McEvoy by Jaime Maussan in Mexico City and identified as Rodolfo Garrido — examined the bracelet and identified what he described as emerging nanotechnology, specifically carbon nanotubes running through the artifact's structure, similar to nanotubes under active development by NASA at the time.

The symbols on the exterior of the bracelet were assessed by McEvoy as resembling the Roswell crash strut debris markings, the symbols reported on the acorn-shaped object from the 1965 Kecksburg UFO incident, and Egyptian hieroglyphic script.

No independent scientific examination of the bracelet has been documented in the public record.

Bio-electric interface mechanism

Reed described the device as a "bio-electric interface" between the wearer and what he called the beings' superior command structure. Three needles on the interior penetrate the skin, tissue, and nerves of the wearer's arm, initially causing pain that quickly subsides into a cold, almost frozen sensation. McEvoy's examination noted that the three needles are different lengths, and that at the base of each needle is an emerald crystal sphere whose function was not determined. If the device activates, a throbbing pulsation begins in the centre of the chest and spreads outward to the extremities, intensifying progressively.

Reed characterised the activation as a "two-phase operation": "it's not just up to me — it's up to them. They are the owners. They are the ones that decide if in fact it is going to function."

Reed also claimed the bracelet he possessed was not unique: it was one of "several" similar devices held in safekeeping at various locations around the world for "over 60 years," and that he had spoken with other custodians of these devices. In LINK: An Extraterrestrial Odyssey, Reed and Robert Raith suggested the bracelet may have been simultaneously "a 'Link' to the Obelisk" and "a 'Leash' to keep-track of the one wearing it" — noting the device was attached through three surgical gold needles passing through the suit, skin, and into specific forearm nerves, and that when placed against Freddie's suit it "molecularly shifted" to a flexible state, closed automatically, and matched the suit's black colour.

Claimed properties

Reed stated that when fully activated, the bracelet could transport the wearer to another dimension or realm. He alleged that two other scientists who attempted to use the bracelet both died — one immediately, and the other a week later. He stated that the artifact was subsequently placed in a secure location unknown to him, for his own safety.

During a hotel room demonstration witnessed by associate Daniel McEvoy, Reed activated the bracelet. McEvoy described the sequence: Reed placed the bracelet on his arm and winced from the needles; the device changed from its silver appearance to a frosted state "like a cold mug you cut out of the freezer"; Reed pressed buttons on the surface and began vibrating "uncontrollably, almost like a paint shaker"; then he disappeared from the room for approximately 10 to 15 seconds. Upon Reed's reappearance, McEvoy observed a small light in the corner of the room grow into a large luminous humanoid form, shimmering gold, which appeared to communicate with Reed. McEvoy reported that he himself received answers to questions he was mentally formulating during the event — what he described as telepathic communication — and characterised the experience as "warm and fuzzy... almost angelic."

Teleportation destination

Reed described what he experienced during the hotel room activation on Dreamland with Art Bell. Upon putting on the bracelet, he felt "a huge pressure inside of my chest, almost what must feel like a severe heart attack," radiating to his extremities, followed by tunnel vision that went nearly black before clearing completely. He stated he found himself in "a large oval egg-shaped room, probably 50 feet high, 30 feet wide," containing a gold-coloured entity approximately 10 to 15 feet tall, standing off to the side of the wall, appearing to wear a large golden robe "almost like it had wings." The entity communicated telepathically before Reed could speak, telling him: "You are important. All life is important in the universe. There is one creator for all life, but we all have to work together to find the harmony in this life."

Gary Withington incident

Reed recounted that his close friend Gary Withington — who had been involved in the case from the earliest days of the forest incident — was beaten and "left for dead on the side of a road" with severe brain injuries. After relatives contacted Reed and described the situation, Reed stated he used the Link bracelet to transport Withington to "that round room" — the same oval chamber he had previously visited. Reed claimed to have witnessed Withington's recovery firsthand: "I saw his spirit, his energy, his life force, whatever you want to call it. I saw it given back to him and him put in to the collective."

Spanish television demonstration

In a Spanish-language television appearance, Reed described the Link bracelet in its own terms: a small gold-colored device worn on the leg (not the arm, as described in other accounts), functioning as a communication and teleportation interface between the wearer and their superiors. Reed stated it was one of several such devices that had been kept in safekeeping around the world for more than 60 years, and that he had spoken with other custodians of similar devices. During this broadcast, Reed also attempted a live activation on camera, describing the sensation in real time: "I can feel it in my chest. It is painful. But if I hold my chest, it tends to be less painful. And then they make the decision..."

2001 Maussan television demonstration

In 2001, Reed travelled to Mexico at the invitation of journalist Jaime Maussan and appeared on Maussan's Tercer Milenio television programme, reaching "millions and millions of people" across Mexico and internationally. Reed had intended to demonstrate the Link bracelet live but was unable to transport it across international borders due to "security issues." He attempted a partial activation on camera regardless: "Now I can feel it. I can feel it in my chest. It's painful. But if I hold my chest, it has a tendency to be less painful and then they make the decision whether [to activate it]."

A separate live television demonstration — in which Reed reportedly disappeared and reappeared in front of the cameras within seconds — attracted significant scrutiny. Reviewers noted visible edits at the moments of apparent disappearance and reappearance, and identified what they characterised as added crowd audio overlaid onto footage apparently recorded in a studio setting. The demonstration video is publicly available and remains the single most-cited piece of evidence presented by both supporters and critics of Reed.
