UAP materials
UAP materials are physical artifacts — typically metallic fragments — claimed to originate from unidentified aerial phenomena encounters, crash sites, or landing traces, and subjected to laboratory analysis to determine whether their elemental composition, isotopic ratios, or microstructure fall outside known terrestrial parameters.
Recovered materials of this kind are examined through anomalous material analysis — laboratory study using spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, electron microscopy and isotopic-ratio analysis — and a running catalogue of notable samples, spanning the Ubatuba magnesium fragments, Roswell memory metal (Nitinol), the Vallée collection and the Galileo Project ocean spherules, is maintained in that article.

Garry Nolan, professor of Pathology at Stanford University School of Medicine, has examined alleged UAP-associated physical materials obtained through private chains of custody rather than government channels, analyzing them using mass spectrometry to determine elemental and isotopic composition.
Nolan has stated publicly that he possesses alleged UAP-associated material fragments stored in a locked bank account, which he describes as too sensitive to display fully. On a 2024 episode of American Alchemy with host Jesse Michels, Nolan displayed several small metallic fragments on camera at the Nolan Research Lab at Stanford, while acknowledging the material he was able to display was fragmentary compared to larger pieces he was unable to show for national security reasons. On camera, he said of the government's possible parallel knowledge of such materials: "Maybe the stuff that we have somebody is sitting around saying laughably they're wasting their time on exhaust. We have the engine."
Ubatuba material
One case Nolan discusses extensively is the Ubatuba material — fragments of relatively pure magnesium alloy from Brazil, allegedly ejected when a UAP exploded above a beach in the late 1950s and preserved for decades in a museum in Argentina before being obtained by Jacques Vallée and brought to Nolan's lab. Secondary ion mass spectrometry of two independently-obtained fragments from the same purported event showed that one had magnesium isotope ratios far outside the terrestrial range — whereas a companion piece from a different chain of custody had normal ratios, providing an internal control. Nolan published this work in the peer-reviewed journal Progress in Aerospace Sciences, co-authored with Vallée and Larry Lemke.
Bismuth-magnesium layered material

Displayed alongside the Ubatuba fragments was a sample of layered bismuth-magnesium material — long known by the nickname "Art's Parts" after broadcaster Art Bell — whose provenance Hal Puthoff, phoned in by Nolan during the same American Alchemy episode, traced to an anonymous donor claiming to be an Army officer who had found it in his grandfather's archives. Puthoff stated that the alternating micro-layers act as a waveguide for terahertz frequencies, reducing the required microwave carrier to roughly one-thirtieth of the standard wavelength — allowing some thirty waveguides to occupy the volume of one — and Nolan called efficient terahertz waveguiding "the next thing" in electromagnetic communication, enabling applications not currently feasible. Methodology
Nolan describes his methodology as producing data rather than conclusions. The anomalous isotope ratios prove only that the material was engineered; they do not establish its origin. He has discarded or set aside a larger number of submitted materials that proved to be ordinary metals or known human-manufactured alloys from the 1940s.
