The Reptilians — also called reptoids, reptiloids, saurians, draconians, or lizard people — are a class of alleged bipedal humanoid-reptilian beings reported across folklore, contactee testimony, alien abduction narratives, and SSP whistleblower accounts as a non-human intelligent being lineage with a sustained presence on Earth. From early-20th-century theosophical and pulp-fiction antecedents through David Icke's 1998 The Biggest Secret and the Alex Collier/Elena Danaan exopolitics canon, the Reptilian archetype consolidated into the modern claim that a specific civilization — the Alpha Draconis Alpha Draconian Empire and its Earth-based, hybridized, or indigenous reptiloid offshoots — has allegedly occupied Earth's subterranean environments for 15,000 years or longer, infiltrated its ruling bloodlines, and participated in the broader system of covert reptilian agenda operations including abduction, genetic hybridization, bloodline maintenance, shapeshifting, and energetic harvesting of humanity.

Reptilian accounts cross-link several distinct but connected subjects: the off-world Draco reptilians (Alpha Draconis); their purported terrestrial client and hybrid populations, which reportedly include the Earth-adapted Reptoids of John Rhodes and Val Valerian; the Nagai warrior caste; the Earth-indigenous "Dulce" reptilians; and the hybrid human bloodlines which, according to David Icke, allegedly constitute the terrestrial arm of the agenda. Reptiloid civilizations described as peaceful — the Horgon, Zeeleti, Velosi, and others catalogued in Encyclopedia Galactica Volume I — are typically omitted from conspiracy treatments, which focus on the adversarial Draconis-zone empires.

Folkloric and early-20th-century antecedents

The reptilian humanoid as a discrete category in modern lore consolidated out of two strands: indigenous mythological traditions and early 20th-century esoteric and pulp writing. The Nāga of South and Southeast Asian tradition — semi-divine part-human, part-serpent beings — together with the feathered-serpent deities of Mesoamerican religion, the horned serpent of Plains peoples, and the "lizard people" legends of the Hopi and Cherokee, form the indigenous substrate that researcher John Rhodes, through his Reptoids Research Center, argued reflects genuine contact history with an Earth-indigenous reptilian civilization. In parallel, the theosophical tradition — particularly Helena Blavatsky's 1888 The Secret Doctrine — referenced "dragon-men" who once had a civilization on a Lemurian continent, a concept Michael Barkun identifies as a direct precursor to the modern reptilian-conspiracy trope.

Barkun traces the conspiracy-theoretical form specifically to Robert E. Howard's 1929 Weird Tales story "The Shadow Kingdom," whose "serpent men" — humanoids with snake heads living in underground passages and using shapechanging and mind-control to infiltrate humanity — established the template; Howard's idea was picked up by Clark Ashton Smith and absorbed into the Cthulhu Mythos. Edgar Rice Burroughs's Tarzan at the Earth's Core (1929–1930) independently introduced the Horibs, dinosaur-descended humanoids of the Hollow Earth. In the 1940s, American occultist Maurice Doreal (Claude Doggins) authored the pamphlet "Mysteries of the Gobi" and "The Emerald Tablets," describing a "serpent race" with "bodies like man but...heads...like a great snake" able to take human form — material Barkun argues "in all likelihood" derived from Howard's "Shadow Kingdom," and which in turn became the primary source that David Icke drew on for his 2001 Children of the Matrix.

1967 Herbert Schirmer case

One of the earliest reported first-person contact accounts involving reptilian features was that of Ashland, Nebraska police officer Herbert Schirmer, who, under hypnosis, reportedly recalled being taken aboard a UFO on 3 December 1967 by humanoid beings with a slightly reptilian appearance wearing a "winged serpent" emblem on the left side of their chests. The case is considered disputed within mainstream UFO research, and skeptical commentators treat it as a hoax; contactee-tradition researchers cite it as a transitional case between Grey and reptilian abduction reports.

Draco reptilians and the Alpha Draconis model (1990s–present)

Beginning in the early 1990s, contactee Alex Collier relayed information from his Andromedan Council contacts Morenae and Vissaeus describing the reptilian races as the Cekar in the Andromedan tongue, "known as the Draconians because they're from Alpha Draconis" — and reportedly "brought to our galaxy fully formed. Nobody knows where they came from or who dumped them there." A separate contact chain — Elena Danaan's relayed communications from Thor Han Eredyon and the GFW Excelsior database — independently described the same "dumped here" origin, attributing it to "another vastly superior reptilian race, the Tiamatian, from another dimension," with entry through interdimensional portals in the zone of the Thuban and Alwaid systems. The convergence of these two apparently independent contact chains on the same "dumped from elsewhere" origin is considered by exopolitics researchers one of the stronger cross-corroboration points in the modern Reptilian literature.

According to Elena Danaan the species' self-designation is K'Akumaa and they call Earth Shan and its humans Shanar. The Russian Alien Races Book, of claimed Soviet intelligence provenance and unverified authenticity, independently reports three reptilian types from Draco with Earth bases at the Bermuda Triangle, off Denmark, and off New Zealand — points that correspond closely to the four main Cabal underground headquarters identified by Danaan (Dulce, Bermuda, Denmark, New Zealand).

The Draco reptilians are consistently described as caste-differentiated, with a Nagai warrior caste (7–8 feet, red-orange scaled, said to bury themselves for ambush), winged royalty and elites (18–25 feet, wings of articulated skin flaps), and a lower caste of scientists, engineers, traders, and feeders. Corey Goode independently describes the Dracos as stratified into a Royal White Draco ruling caste (tall, winged, white-scaled, higher density) over a Warrior Draco rank-and-file, with Royal Whites allegedly operating above the Dark Fleet command structure.

Earth-indigenous reptilians and the Reptoid distinction

A persistent parallel strand, distinct from the off-world Draco reptilians, describes Earth-indigenous reptilian populations in the subterranean tunnel networks beneath North America and other continents. Val Valerian's Matrix II (1990) systematized an early typology separating the "Saurian Greys" (small, manufactured biological entities), the imperial off-world Draco, and the Reptoids — medium-height, green-brown, Earth-adapted reptilian beings with variable intelligence and social organization, some reportedly tribal, some in loose subterranean city-states. John Rhodes, through the Reptoids Research Center founded in the mid-1990s, developed the typology further, emphasizing the global consistency of indigenous oral traditions describing intelligent subterranean reptilians.

A 1999 contact case, publicized by Michael Salla in 2024, is often cited in this context. Swedish contactee "Ole K" reported contact with a female reptilian named Lacerta who claimed membership in an Earth-indigenous population that "have been here for hundreds of thousands, even millions of years and in fact predate the human presence," allegedly having been driven underground when "human-looking extraterrestrials" wiped out the surface dinosaurs to terraform the planet. Lacerta purportedly characterized the Earth-based reptilian attitude toward humanity as predatory ("they regard us as prey") and the craft used as cigar-shaped, distinct from the delta- or disc-shaped vessels associated with the Alpha Draconian Empire. Jason Sands, a retired United States Air Force intelligence specialist who served at the Nellis Test Range, proposed a similar but more finely-grained distinction: allegedly one genuinely malevolent reptilian type with a "bloodlust," a second type described by experiencers as benevolent, a possibly separate amphibious race, and a scaly-skinned Grey subtype frequently mistaken for a reptilian — noting that the topic was treated as taboo within his classified units.

The underground environments described across these accounts correspond to the same tunnel networks referenced according to Dulce Base, in the testimony of alleged Dulce insider Thomas Castello, and in the lectures of geologist Phil Schneider, who reported violent encounters with "large grey-green reptilian beings" at approximately 1.5 miles below Dulce, New Mexico — beings that, in Schneider's description, match Reptoid rather than Draco profiles.

The modern conspiracy-theoretical form of the Reptilian hypothesis was systematized by British author David Icke beginning with The Biggest Secret (1998) and elaborated across Children of the Matrix (2001) and subsequent works. Icke claims that tall, blood-drinking, shape-shifting reptilian humanoids from the Alpha Draconis star system, allegedly now hiding in underground bases, are the force behind a worldwide conspiracy against humanity, and that most of the world's ancient and modern leaders are related to these reptilians — including the Merovingian dynasty, the Rothschilds, the Bush family, and the British Royal family.

Icke's model describes a three-tier control pyramid: reptilian entities (primarily Draco/Draco reptilians) allegedly operating "just outside of visible light" from the top; beneath them, human-reptilian hybrid bloodlines embedded in secret-society networks controlling global finance, media, and politics; and at the bottom, the general human population kept in fear and ignorance to generate harvestable low-frequency emotional energy. The defining structural feature of the bloodlines is extreme endogamy, purportedly maintained to prevent dilution of the non-human "software program": "to them, procreation is the downloading of two hard drives... when you interbreed that hybrid bloodlines with the general population, that unique software program starts to dilute very, very quickly."

Stewart Swerdlow, describing himself as a Montauk Project survivor, reports that when certain processes are applied to the blood of these bloodlines it turns "a greeny-blue color" — which he argues is the origin of "blue blood" for aristocracy — due to allegedly elevated copper content. Swerdlow additionally claims Queen Elizabeth II was known among palace staff to shapeshift.

Icke's shapeshifting mechanism, elaborated in a 2025 interview, posits that "shape shifting takes place in one place only — in the decoding system of the brain. What's moving, what's shifting is energetic information, not solid bodies." The most commonly reported observable correlate is the eye shift from round to vertical-slit pupils, rather than full-body transformation. In October 2017, Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins publicly described witnessing a shapeshifting event at close range while completely sober — an account frequently cited in subsequent Reptilian-hypothesis material: "I was with somebody once and I saw a transformation that I can't explain. The person transformed into something other than human."

Across Icke, Swaruu of Erra (relayed via Cosmic Agency), Laura Eisenhower, and Stewart Swerdlow, the agenda is allegedly framed as operating on multiple registers simultaneously: energetic harvesting of low-vibrational human emotion — the "Loosh" of Robert Monroe's astral taxonomy — as nutritional or sustaining resource; genetic hybridization programs aiming to assimilate humanity into an androgynous Draconian biology; institutional infiltration through the Illuminati/deep state interface with off-planet controllers reportedly formalized in the 1950s Eisenhower-era agreements with the Nebu; and post-death exploitation in which reptilian entities allegedly intercept human souls in the lower astral plane and coerce reincarnation via manufactured karma guilt.

The Draco reptilians' alleged standard operational method for colonizing inhabited worlds — establishing underground bases, linking them by tunnel, then installing a surface puppet government — is, in Danaan's testimony, the same template applied to Earth, with four main underground headquarters purportedly beneath Dulce, the Bermuda Triangle, Denmark, and New Zealand. Mass abduction of human females is described as allegedly fueling hybrid-offspring programs: "They also abduct females on a large scale, in order to create hybrid offsprings to be sent away to other colonized planets or, otherwise, these offsprings become powerful members infiltrated in the main leading societies."

Political life of the image

The figure of reptilian world controllers entered mainstream political culture in fragmented and jocular form from the early 2000s. On 12 September 2003, Ernie Eves's Ontario campaign issued a news release calling opponent Dalton McGuinty an "evil reptilian kitten-eater from another planet"; Eves characterized the line as a joke but declined to apologize. In the 2008 Minnesota U.S. Senate recount between Al Franken and Norm Coleman, a challenged ballot included "Lizard People" written as a write-in candidate. In February 2011, on Opie and Anthony, comedian Louis C.K. repeatedly asked former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld whether he and Dick Cheney were lizard people who enjoyed the taste of human flesh, treating Rumsfeld's refusal to directly answer as ambiguous confirmation.

A 2013 Public Policy Polling survey indicated that approximately 4% of registered U.S. voters (±2.8%) endorsed Icke's specific reptilian thesis. On 4 March 2013 a Wired report spotlighted video of a security agent with unusual facial features guarding a speech by U.S. President Barack Obama, prompting a tongue-in-cheek National Security Council response that any "program to guard the president with aliens or robots" would "likely have to be scaled back or eliminated in the sequester." In October 2022, Dutch MP Thierry Baudet (leader of Forum for Democracy) told the "Geopolitics and Empire" podcast that he believes the world is "being governed by evil reptiles."

Resistance and retreat

Michael Salla has argued that the Reptilian agenda — after decades or centuries of alleged covert planetary influence — is now in terminal retreat. Per Danaan, GFW military operations between 2020 and 2022 purportedly expelled Draco reptilian forces from the Moon, Mars, and near-space, and following the dismantlement of the Alliance of the Six in late 2023 the Draco reptilians are reportedly "basically on their own in this galaxy." What remains, per Salla, is allegedly a "deep state" of former human minions of the Draco and Orion Greys who retain significant power and are, he contends, executing a false alien-invasion narrative as a last-ditch power-preservation strategy: "Could this be the deep state, the minions of the former Draco Reptilians and the Orion Grays, that ruled our planet, that had control over our planet for decades, if not centuries or longer, that they were forced to leave?"

Academic and exopolitics commentary

Mainstream academic treatment of the Reptilian hypothesis — as distinct from exopolitics-internal accounts — is overwhelmingly skeptical. Political scientist Michael Barkun traces the thesis genealogically to pulp fiction and theosophical material rather than to genuine contact, and has documented the absorption of the 1903 antisemitic fabrication The Protocols of the Elders of Zion into Icke's framework via the equation of "hybrid bloodlines" with Jewish ethnic descent — a linkage cited by multiple sources as the principal reason for Icke's banning from Australia in 2019 and his characterization as a disseminator of antisemitic conspiracy material. Adherents of the QAnon movement have borrowed from the Reptilian conspiracy, and elements have appeared in specific violent incidents including the 2020 Nashville bombing, whose perpetrator was reportedly influenced by Icke's writings. Tyson Lewis and Richard Kahn's 2005 academic study in Utopian Studies analyzed the Reptilian hypothesis as "utopian and dystopian representational motifs" according to David Icke rather than as an empirical claim.

Exopolitics-internal commentators including Danaan, Salla, and Swaruu of Erra acknowledge the stigmatizing effect of the Icke framework on serious reptilian-species research — noting that "the reptilian cultures have been unfairly stigmatized due to the actions of the ignominious Alpha Draconis Alpha Draconian Empire" — and distinguish the adversarial Draconis-zone empires from the larger catalogued population of peaceful reptiloid civilizations elsewhere in the galaxy.
